Shaped elements for smoking devices
A mouthpiece for a smoking device is provided. The mouthpiece comprises a porous substrate. The porous surface comprises a wall having an outer surface having an outer cross-sectional shape and an inner surface having an inner cross-sectional shape. The inner surface defines a hollow interior space. A wall thickness is defined by the outer and inner surfaces. The porous substrate has a specific hardness of at least about 1.5 hardness % per weight (g) per length (mm) of the porous substrate. The porous substrate has a porosity of about 50% to about 70%. The inner and outer surfaces provide a wall thickness of about 20% to 60% of an area defined by the outer cross-sectional shape.
AEROSOL GENERATING ARTICLE HAVING IMPROVED MOUTH END CAVITY
An aerosol-generating article (10) comprising: an aerosol generating substrate (12); and a mouthpiece (14) disposed downstream of the aerosol-generating substrate (12). The mouthpiece (14) comprises a hollow tubular segment (24) at its downstream end defining a mouth end cavity (40). The hollow tubular segment (24) comprises a hollow tube (31) of crimped fibrous material, and a plurality of non-crimped fibers (35) extending along and affixed to the inner surface (311) of the hollow tube (31).
Smoking article with ventilated mouth end cavity
A smoking article comprises a tobacco rod and a filter connected to the tobacco rod. The filter comprises a first filter segment and a hollow tube segment downstream of the first filter segment. The hollow tube segment defines a cavity at the mouth end of the filter providing an unrestricted flow channel that extends from the downstream end of the first filter segment to the mouth end of the filter. The length of the hollow tube segment is at least about (25) percent and less than about (50) percent of the overall filter length. Further, the smoking article comprises a ventilation zone in communication with the cavity at a location along the hollow tube segment.
Methods and equipment for forming tubes of fibrous material
Equipment for forming a tubular rod from a bundle of fibrous material comprising a mandrel constructed to form a space within the bundle of fibres; the mandrel includes a passage for delivering a treatment fluid to facilitate the formation of the fibres into a tubular structure as the fibre bundle as the bundle passes over the mandrel.
AEROSOL GENERATING ARTICLE WITH IMPROVED MOUTH END CAVITY
An aerosol-generating article (10) comprising: an aerosol generating substrate (12); and a mouthpiece (14) disposed downstream of the aerosol-generating substrate (12). The mouthpiece (14) comprises a hollow tubular segment (24) at its downstream end defining a mouth end cavity (40), and the hollow tubular segment (24) comprises a hollow tube (31) of fibrous material, and a polymeric film (35) secured to the inner surface (311) of the hollow tube (31).
Shaping a Tobacco Industry Product
There is described an apparatus for shaping a tobacco industry product, the apparatus comprising a shaping head configured to change the shape of a first end of the tobacco industry product. The apparatus also includes an actuator configured to move the shaping head and/or tobacco industry product such that the shaping head is brought into contact with the tobacco industry product in order to change the shape of the first end of the tobacco industry product. The actuator can be configured to move the shaping head and/or tobacco industry product in a direction substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the tobacco industry product. The shaping head can be brought into contact with a first longitudinal end surface and/or an inner surface of the tobacco industry product in order to change the shape of the tobacco industry product. Also described is a corresponding method of shaping a tobacco industry product and a tobacco industry product formed using the method.
Die, die assembly, equipment and method for forming rods of fibrous material
A die or die assembly for forming a bundle of fibres into a rod or tube comprises a body (84) defining a passage 86) for conducting the bundle fibres through the die from an inlet to an outlet, a constriction (91) in the passage having an entrance shaped to form the fibres of the bundle into a desired configuration as the bundle passes through the die, and one or more conduits (92) through which a treatment fluid e.g. steam, for curing the bundle of fibres may be introduced into the passage, and wherein at last one conduit is arranged to discharge fluid in the immediate vicinity of the entrance to the constriction to facilitate passage of the fibres through the die and reduce the risk of blockage.
Methods and equipment for forming tubes of fibrous material
Equipment for forming a tubular rod of fibrous material comprises: a gathering station constructed to receive a continuous supply of fibres and to gather the fibres into a bundle as the fibres advance through the equipment; a divider arranged in the path of the fibres through the equipment and constructed to from a cleft along the length of the bundle as it advances through the equipment; a mandrel positioned in the path of the bundle of fibres in alignment with the divider and constructed to form the cleft into a passage through the bundle of fibres as the bundle of fibres advances over the mandrel; and a die constructed and arranged to cooperate with the mandrel to form the fibres in a tubular configuration around the mandrel.
