Methods for determining a value of an intrinsic geometrical parameter of a geometrical feature characterizing a physical object, and for classifying a scene into at least one geometrical shape, each geometrical shape modeling a luminous object. A singular light distribution characterized by a first wavelength and a position of singularity is projected onto the physical object. Light excited by the singular light distribution that has interacted with the geometrical feature and that impinges upon a detector is detected and a return energy distribution is identified and quantified at one or more positions. A deep learning or neural network layer may be employed, using the detected light as direct input of the neural network layer, adapted to classify the scene, as a plurality of shapes, static or dynamic, the shapes being part of a set of shapes predetermined or acquired by learning.

A method of scanning an oral cavity including: acquiring, using an intraoral scanner (IOS) head, without changing a position of the IOS head, a first image of a first region of interest (ROI) and a second image of a second ROI where the first and the second ROIs are of different portions of a dental arch of the oral cavity and do not overlap; reconstructing depth information for the first and the second ROI; and generating a single model of the dental arch by combing the depth information.

System and method of defining a path and scanning an environment

A system and method for measuring three-dimensional (3D) coordinate values of an environment is provided. The method including moving a 2D scanner through the environment. A 2D map of the environment is generated using the 2D scanner. A path is defined through the environment using the 2D scanner. 3D scan locations along the path are defined using the 2D scanner. The 2D scanner is operably coupled to a mobile base unit. The mobile base unit is moved along the path based at least in part on the 2D map and the defined path. 3D coordinate values are measured at the 3D scan locations with a 3D scanner, the 3D scanner being coupled to the mobile base unit.

A method for determining geometrical parameters of a soft contact lens comprises the steps of providing an OCT imaging device comprising an OCT light source; providing a soft contact lens arranging the soft contact lens relative to the OCT imaging device so light coming from the OCT light source impinges on the back surface of the soft contact lens; generating a three-dimensional OCT image of the soft contact lens; from the three-dimensional OCT image determining a plurality of edge points located on the edge of the soft contact lens, connecting adjacent ones of the edge points by individual straight lines; summing up the lengths of all individual straight lines to a length U of the approximated circumference of the soft contact lens; from the length U determining a diameter D of the lens according to D=U/π.

Vehicles With Automatic Headlight Alignment

A vehicle may have lights such as headlights. The lights may be moved using a positioner. Control circuitry in the vehicle may use sensor circuitry to monitor the environment surrounding the vehicle. The sensor circuitry may include one or more sensors such as a lidar sensor, radar sensor, image sensor, and/or other sensors to measure the shape of a surface in front of the vehicle and the location of the surface relative to the vehicle. These sensors and/or other sensors in the sensor circuitry also measure headlight illumination on the surface. Based on the known shape of the surface in front of the vehicle and the distance of the surface from the vehicle, the control circuitry can predict where a headlight should be aimed on the surface. By comparing predictions of headlight illumination on the surface to measurements of headlight illumination on the surface, the vehicle can determine how to move the headlight with the positioner to align the headlight.
