Portable monitoring devices and methods of operating same
According to one embodiment, an apparatus comprising a portable monitoring device to be affixed to a user. The portable monitoring device including: 1) a set of one or more sensors to generate sensor data indicative of physical activity of a user when the portable monitoring device is affixed to the user; and 2) processing circuitry coupled with the set of sensors, to detect that the user has been sedentary for a period of time, and cause the portable monitoring device to alert the user responsive to the detection to encourage the user to move.

Systems, methods, devices and computer-readable storage mediums are disclosed for correcting a compass view using map data. In an implementation, a method comprises: receiving, by one or more sensors of a mobile device, sensor data; determining, by a processor of the mobile device, compass offset data for a compass view based on the sensor data and map data; determining, by the processor, a corrected compass view based on the compass offset data; and presenting, by the processor, the corrected compass view.

A smart terminal service system and a smart terminal processing data are disclosed. The smart terminal service system comprises smart shoes and the smart terminal. Methods, systems and devices are provided for motion-activated display of messages on an activity monitoring device. In one embodiment, method for presenting a message on an activity monitoring device is provided, including the following method operations: downloading a plurality of messages to the device; detecting a stationary state of the device; detecting a movement of the device from the stationary state; in response to detecting the movement from the stationary state, selecting one of a plurality of messages, and displaying the selected message on the device.
MUSIC SELECTION BASED ON EXERCISE DETECTION
Techniques for music selection based on exercise detection are disclosed. In one aspect, a method of operating a wearable device may involve determining, based on output of one or more biometric sensors, that a user of the wearable device has started an exercise and playing music for the user of the wearable device in response to determining the start of the exercise. For example, playing the music may involve turning on a music player based on the start of the exercise. In another example, the wearable device includes the music player.
WEARABLE STEP-COUNTING SHOE
A wearable step-counting shoe includes a shoe body and a pedometer. The shoe body includes a shoe sole having opposite inner and outer sides, and a groove surface defining amounting groove. The pedometer is removably disposed in the mounting groove and includes a pedometer body having opposite first and second faces and configured to detect and record the number of steps taken by a user, and a screen disposed on the second face and configured to display the detected number of steps. An engaging unit is provided to fix the pedometer on the shoe body, and includes a first engaging portion provided on the groove surface, and a second engaging portion provided on the pedometer and releasably engageable with the first engaging portion.

Examples include systems and methods for decomposition of error components between angular, forward, and sideways errors in estimated positions of a computing device. One method includes determining an estimation of a current position of the computing device based on a previous position of the computing device, an estimated speed over an elapsed time, and a direction of travel of the computing device, determining a forward, sideways, and orientation change error component of the estimation of the current position of the computing device, determining a weight to apply to the forward, sideways, and orientation change error components based on average observed movement of the computing device, and using the weighted forward, sideways, and orientation change error components as constraints for determination of an updated estimation of the current position of the computing device.
DETERMINING FOOTWEAR REPLACEMENT BASED ON PIEZOELECTRIC OUTPUT
An article of apparel, a system, and methods include a structural material configured to enable the article of footwear to the worn on a body. A wireless transmission circuit is included and a piezoelectric generator is positioned with respect to the structural material in a configuration to be flexed to induce a voltage signal output. A voltage sensor is configured to sense the voltage profile and output a sensor signal indicative of the voltage profile. An electronic data storage, coupled to the voltage sensor, is configured to store voltage profile information based on the sensor data. A comparator, coupled to the electronic data storage, is configured to identify a change in the voltage profile information over time. The wireless transmission circuit is configured to transmit data indicative of a physical status of the article of footwear based on the change in the voltage profile information over time.

Disclosed is a wearable step counter system comprising a garment for a wearer's legs, a capacitive electrode and a microcontroller, said garment comprising a textile fabric portion, said capacitive electrode comprising an electrically conductive yarn woven into said textile fabric portion, said textile fabric portion being arranged on said garment for providing a parasitic capacitive coupling between said capacitive electrode and a wearer's leg, said microcontroller being electrically connected to said capacitive electrode for evaluating said parasitic capacitive coupling so that the relative movement between the wearer's legs is detected by the microcontroller.
