In various embodiments, a post-mastectomy garment may include first and second ends, an interior side and an exterior side opposite the interior side, and the interior and exterior sides may extend between the first and second ends. In some embodiments, a closing mechanism may releasably connect the first end to said second end. In various embodiments, two opposing openings through the garment may be provided and shaped to receive arms of a patient. In some embodiments, an adjustable chest support may extend outward from the interior side. One or more drain bulb pockets may be positioned on the interior side to receive one or more surgical drain bulbs. One or more tubing pockets may also be positioned on said interior side to receive excess drain tubing.

An improved adaptive garment has a shoulder seam closure of (1) a first panel containing one or more magnetic fasteners or a magnetic strip of a positive or negative polarity, and (2) a second panel containing one or more magnetic fasteners or a magnetic strip of opposite polarity. The magnetic elements of the first and second panels are attracted and attach to each other, such that the second panel overlaps the first panel and closes the shoulder seam. This improved adaptive garment permits those with limited dexterity or mobility, youngsters, or those with disabilities and/or other health conditions get dressed more easily and quickly, with or without the assistance of others. This shoulder seam closure further permits the adaptive garment not to use a back seam closure of magnetic fasteners, thereby eliminating their pressure against the wearer's back and the discomfort, pain or irritation they might cause, and permitting to contain a back vent or pleat.

The bottom portion may include a front bottom side (128), a first rear flap (130), a second rear flap (132), and the first tie integrally formed with the first rear flap. The first and second rear flaps may extend from opposite edges of the front bottom side. The cover patch may be configured to at least partially couple the top portion and the bottom portion together. The second tie may be coupled between the cover patch and the bottom portion. The medical gown may provide easy donning and doffing as well as be optimally configured for manufacturing using automation.

The inner lining is made of a second material that has a higher elasticity than the first material. The garment has a series of pockets disposed on the inner lining configured to hold a heating element to keep the patient's arms warm while in the treatment position.

An apparatus for executing a method of manufacturing multi-piece open-back isolation garments (10) includes machinery for creating discrete torso web pieces (12) from a continuous torso web (14), combining the discrete torso pieces with a continuous shoulder web having neck openings (37) therein, and cutting the combined torso and shoulder web structure to form the isolation garments. The isolation garments may be used as protection from potentially hazardous or unclean materials in a variety of different environments.
