Remote sensing atmospheric pressure profiles through combined radar and/or radiometer measurements

An apparatus configured to scan radar and radiometer combination used to image 3D atmospheric pressure from high altitudes or space. The apparatus includes a microwave sensor configured to operate at a V-band between a range of 51 and 71 GHz, producing high fidelity retrievals of one or more pressure and temperature profiles. The sensor includes a broadband transmitter and one or more receivers with three or more transmitted and received radar frequencies. The three or more transmitted and received frequencies are used to provide an estimate of atmospheric oxygen absorption in atmosphere. The sensor is further configured to provide vertical pressure profiles by combining three radar frequency data from the three or more transmitted and received radar frequencies with vertical temperature information.

An exemplary microwave ablation system is provided. The system may use a switching antenna for both microwave heating of target tissue and microwave radiometry to monitor the temperature of the heated tissue to ensure that the desired temperatures are delivered to adequately treat the target tissue and achieve therapeutic goals. The system may integrate switching components into the switching antenna, which eliminates error from heating of the reference termination and heating of the electrical cables.

Microwave radiation detector

A detector of microwave radiation includes a signal input and a detector output. An absorber element of ohmic conductivity is coupled to said signal input through a first length of superconductor. A variable impedance element, the impedance of which is configured to change as a function of temperature, is coupled to the detector output through a second length of superconductor. The detector also includes a heating input and a heating element coupled to the heating input through a third length of superconductor. The absorber element, the variable impedance element, and the heating element are coupled to each other through superconductor sections of lengths shorter than any of said first, second, and third lengths of superconductor.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR NON-CONTACT TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT OF A FOOD ITEM

A method and apparatus for temperature processing a food item. It should be noted that the description provided herein will primarily focus on cooking temperature processing, but cooking is referred to, the process for determining core temperature can also be used for chilling and/or freezing a food item. One implementation of the technology as disclosed and claimed, utilizes a combination of 3D profile scanning camera, mid-range infrared camera, high-resolution encoder-based positioning device, and cook profile settings in order to measure the physical attributes of the product related to the fully cooked state. The system is measuring at least two aspects that determine the temperature change within an object during the cook process and they are geometry and thermodynamic properties.

Sensing temperature within medical devices

Devices, systems, and techniques for monitoring the temperature of a device used to charge a rechargeable power source are disclosed. Implantable medical devices may include a rechargeable power source that can be transcutaneously charged. The temperature of an external charging device and/or an implantable medical device may be monitored to control the temperature exposure to patient tissue. In one example, a temperature sensor may sense a temperature of a portion of a device, wherein the portion is non-thermally coupled to the temperature sensor. A processor may then control charging of the rechargeable power source based on the sensed temperature.

METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE TEMPERATURE OF A RUBBERY MATERIAL ENTERING INTO THE COMPOSITION OF A TIRE

The method includes the step of positioning the product to be measured on a transport table. The method proceeds with the step of advancing the product under a frame that includes at least one terahertz sensor. The method continues with the step of emitting incident terahertz radiation in the direction of the product. The method proceeds with the step of detecting the signal corresponding to a multiple spectrum of terahertz rays reflected by the interfaces encountered by the incident ray. The method continues with the step of analyzing the signal to determine various peaks corresponding to the various interfaces encountered. The method proceeds with the step of determining, on the basis of the amplitude of each peak, the temperature of each layer of material through which the incident ray passes.
