The magneto-mechanical oscillator transduces an external magnetic or electromagnetic excitation field into a mechanical oscillation of the magnetic object, wherein at least a part of the casing is flexible for allowing to transduce external pressure changes into changes of the mechanical oscillation of the magnetic object. The pressure sensor can be very small and nevertheless provide high quality pressure sensing.

The invention relates to a marker device and a tracking system for tracking the marker device, wherein the marker device comprises a rotationally oscillatable magnetic object and wherein the rotational oscillation is excitable by an external magnetic field, i.e. a magnetic field which is generated by a magnetic field providing unit 20, 31 that is located outside of the marker device. The rotational oscillation of the magnetic object induces a current in coils, wherein based on these induced currents the position and optionally also the orientation of the marker device is determined. This wireless kind of tracking can be carried out with relatively small marker devices, which can be placed, for instance, in a guidewire, the marker devices can be read out over a relatively large distance and it is possible to use a single marker device for six degrees of freedom localization.

The measurement device 1 is adapted such that the resonant frequency depends on the temperature or on another physical or chemical quantity like pressure, in order to allow for a wireless temperature measurement or measurement of the other physical or chemical quantity via an external magnetic field providing the external magnetic torque. This measurement device can be relatively small, can be read-out over a relatively larger distance and allows for a very accurate measurement.

An energy transmission system comprising a pole, at least one wire, a sensing system coupled to the pole for monitoring pole temperature, dynamic pole loading, external impact on the pole, vibration of the pole, and wires that are downed, at least one line sensor coupled to the wire and at least one powered data integrator. The sensing system comprises at least one dynamic pole loading sensor and a three-dimensional accelerometer. The dynamic pole loading sensor can be coupled to the lower portion of the pole above ground level but not more than 10 feet above ground level. Optionally there are two dynamic pole loading sensors, the first sensor having a longitudinal axis parallel to a longitudinal axis of the pole, and the second sensor having a longitudinal axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the pole.

Spintronic mechanical shock and vibration sensor device

A magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) based sensor device includes a MTJ element and processing circuitry. The MTJ element includes a free layer, a pinned layer, an elastic layer, and a tunnel barrier. The free layer is spaced apart from the pinned layer by the tunnel barrier and the elastic layer. The processing circuitry is configured to measure a resistance at the MTJ element and determine whether mechanical shock and vibration has occurred based on the resistance at the MTJ element.

A vibrating beam accelerometer (VBA) with an in-plane translational proof mass that may include at least two or more resonators and be built with planar geometry, discrete lever arms, four-fold symmetry and a single primary mechanical anchor between the support base and the VBA. In some examples, the VBA of this disclosure may be built according to a micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) fabrication process. Use of a single primary mechanical anchor may minimize bias errors that can be caused by external mechanical forces applied to the circuit board, package, and/or substrate that contains the accelerometer mechanism.

An electronic device including an actuator and a driving circuit electrically coupled to the actuator. The driving circuit can be configured to determine a resonance frequency of the actuator and deliver a driving frequency matching the resonance frequency to the actuator, as well as a driving voltage. The electronic device also includes a memory and a processor. The processor can determine the presence of a force applied to the electronic device based on the resonance frequency of the actuator. Based on determining a force is being applied to the electronic device, the processor can execute a predetermined function of the electronic device.

Active waveguide excitation and compensation

An environmental condition may be measured with a sensor (10) including a wire (20) having an ultrasonic signal transmission characteristic that varies in response to the environmental condition by sensing ultrasonic energy propagated through the wire using multiple types of propagation, and separating an effect of temperature on the wire from an effect of strain on the wire using the sensed ultrasonic energy propagated through the wire using the multiple types of propagation. A positive feedback loop may be used to excite the wire such that strain in the wire is based upon a sensed resonant frequency, while a square wave with a controlled duty cycle may be used to excite the wire at multiple excitation frequencies. A phase matched cone (200, 210) may be used to couple ultrasonic energy between a waveguide wire (202, 212) and a transducer (204, 214).
