Monitoring of fluid pipes
A fluid pipe 1 is monitored using a distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) fibre 10 provided within pipe 1. The DAS fibre 10 is coupled at one end to a light emitter 101 and a light detector 102. The light emitter 101 emits light pulses into the DAS fibre. The light detector 102 detects backscattered light so as to provide an indication of the vibration experienced by each section of the DAS fibre 10 and thus of vibration characteristic of particular pipe events including leaks of the pipe 1. The DAS fibre 10 in a pipe 1 can also be used to locate the route of a buried pipe 1 by successively tamping the ground surface at a number of locations A-E in the vicinity of the suspected route of the pipe 1 and comparing the tamping vibrations detected from each location A-E.

Leak detection assembly for use with a filter assembly for a refrigerator appliance
A filter assembly and a method of operating the same to detect water leaks are provided. The filter assembly includes a filter housing for receiving a filter cartridge and at least partially defining a drain trough positioned below the filter cartridge for collecting leaked water. A light source is positioned proximate the drain trough for directing light through the drain trough and a light sensor is positioned proximate the drain trough for sensing the light directed through the drain trough. A controller uses the light sensor to monitor the light generated by the light source and determines that a leak exists when an intensity of sensed light is reduced by the leaked water.

OPTICAL CABLE, OPTICAL CABLE MONITORING SYSTEM, AND WELL MONITORING METHOD
An optical cable includes: an optical fiber for sensing deformation of hydrocarbon absorbing resin having a property of expanding by absorbing hydrocarbon in oil; a strand provided so as to surround the outer circumference of the optical fiber; and hydrocarbon absorbing resin filling a space between the optical fiber and the strand. The optical cable configured as described above is installed along the depth direction of a well that is a measurement subject, over the entire range thereof, and a backscatter light frequency shift signal from the optical fiber is measured by a backscatter light measurement device, to detect presence/absence of leakage of oil from the well over the entire range in the depth direction of the well.
LEAK DETECTION SYSTEM
A leak detection system includes a light source configured to output emitted light into a region of water, and a light detector configured to receive returned light from the region of the water and to output a detector signal indicative of the returned light. The leak detection system also includes at least one controller configured to detect hydrocarbons within the region of the water in response to detecting a hydrocarbon wavelength within the returned light, to determine at least one position of the hydrocarbons within the region of the water based on a time difference between a first time at which the emitted light is output from the light source and a second time at which the returned light at the hydrocarbon wavelength is received at the light detector, and to generate a three-dimensional model of a subsea structure based on the detector signal.
