Determination of rheology of fluid in an oil or gas well
The invention relates to the measurement of the rheology of drilling fluid down a hydrocarbon well in real time during operations. A sensor device comprising a pipe rheometer with multiple diameters is installed in a bottom hole assembly tool, such that a portion of the total flow of drilling fluid passes through it. In this way the rheological properties of the drilling fluid can be determined under the high pressures and elevated temperatures encountered downhole.
Method of measuring extensional viscosity of polymer melts and capillary injection system
The present disclosure provides a method of measuring an extensional viscosity of a polymer melt and a capillary injection system. The method includes the operations of: based on a weighted GNF viscosity model, obtaining a viscosity profile of the polymer melt according to a transport equation, a Navier Stokes equation, and a Trouton function; measuring a pressure drop of the polymer melt; obtaining a general viscosity of the polymer melt from the viscosity profile according to the pressure drop, wherein the general viscosity comprises a shear viscosity of the polymer melt and the extensional viscosity of the polymer melt; and extracting the extensional viscosity from the general viscosity.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR VISCOSITY MEASUREMENTS USING A PORTABLE FIELD VISCOMETER
An apparatus and method are disclosed for accurately determining viscosity of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in the field or in-service by using a potable field viscometer. The portable field viscometer includes a vertical disposable (or reusable) sample insert tube filled with the liquid which the viscosity is to be determined. Using fins on the needle surface, a needle having a known density is made to fall through the liquid in the disposable (or reusable) sample insert tube coaxially. Using the time that the needle takes to fall between two known distance marks on the extension bar attached the top of the needle or transducers such as light, laser or magnetic, the velocity of the needle falling through the liquid is determined. Thus, the viscosity can be calculated by using the velocity of a needle. In the method, viscosity, shear rate and shear stress can be determined according to the disclosed method.
System and method for determining polymer filament rheological properties
The present disclosure provides a low-cost and accurate rheometer system and method capable of determining melt flow rheological properties of polymers, such as from Fused Filament Fabrication (“FFF”) polymeric materials. The device can include a filament feeding system, liquefier for filament melting, force transducer for measuring filament feeding force, and a temperature control system for controlling polymer melt temperatures. An electronic control system can capture data and manage operations. The system can measure a filament velocity and filament force required to extrude the FFF filament for printing. The filament velocity and force data can be used to compute data sets of melt volumetric flow relative to pressure drop across a FFF nozzle. An inverse analysis process transforms the computed data sets through nonlinear curve fitting to determine rheological parameters, independent of the customary calculation of apparent viscosity from shear stress and strain rate, that can assist in controlling the filament deposition.
Measuring properties of flour, dough, and other solids
Described herein are systems and methods for the automated adjustment of flour property measurement equipment such as dough rheometers. The systems and methods allow measurements of flour and dough to be performed on different rheometers with consistent results, regardless of the manufacturer or location of the rheometers. The systems and methods described herein allow a second rheometer, for example, that is deployed in the field to provide results that are consistent with a first dough rheometer, for example, that may be at a different location, or the same location but of the same or different manufacturer. The systems and methods can be used to calibrate, remotely and in real-time, dough rheometers that are deployed in various locations.
OILFIELD LIQUID WASTE PROCESSING FACILITY AND METHODS
Systems and methods for processing one or more waste fluids by measuring one or more properties of a waste fluid and adjusting the flow and/or flowability of the waste fluid based on the measurement are disclosed. The one or more properties of the waste fluid can include a viscosity of the waste fluid, a pressure of the waste fluid, and/or or a difference in pressure of the waste fluid. Adjusting the flow and/or flowability of the waste fluid can include adjusting the one or more properties of the waste fluid and/or affecting the direction of flow of the waste fluid in a manner which changes the destination of the waste fluid.
Method for estimating filter clogging with slurry for electrode preparation
A method for predicting the likelihood of coagulation of active material particles contained in a slurry for electrode preparation includes measuring rheological properties before and after the slurry is subjected to a shear. The estimation method enables a prediction of filter clogging with a slurry, and thus makes it possible to estimate the likelihood of filter clogging with a slurry without passing the slurry directly through the filter, thereby improving the efficiency of a battery manufacturing process.
MULTILAYER FLUID ANALYSIS PROGRAM, AND MULTILAYER FLUID ANALYSIS SYSTEM
A computer-readable non-transitory storage medium stores a multilayer fluid analysis program for analyzing a multilayer fluid as 2.5 dimensions in which each layer is divided into elements and each of the elements has information about a layer thickness in a finite element model for the multilayer fluid. The multilayer fluid analysis program allowing a computer to function as: a layer thickness calculation process for calculating the layer thickness of the elements from a simultaneous equation indicating a relationship between stress in a normal direction and a fluid viscosity in the elements without considering a fluid flow in a thickness direction of the layer thickness under a condition that stresses in the normal direction and a tangential direction are balanced at an interface of respective layers and a flow velocity at the interface is continuous; and a display process for displaying a calculation result.
Assembly for measuring the viscosity of fluids using microchannels
The present disclosure provides improved viscosity measuring assemblies, and related methods of use. More particularly, the present disclosure provides advantageous measuring assemblies configured to measure the viscosity of samples/fluids (e.g., opaque or transparent liquids) using microchannels. The present disclosure provides for a viscosity measuring assembly (e.g., hand-held electronic measuring assembly) that is configured to measure the viscosity of samples/fluids (e.g., opaque or transparent Newtonian and non-Newtonian liquids, including blood, etc.), in a short period of time (e.g., within a couple of minutes) utilizing only about a droplet of fluid. The viscosity measuring assembly can include a substrate having a microchannel, a light source (e.g., a collimated low coherence light source), and a sensor (e.g., photodiode). The micro-channeled substrate may be disposable, and some of the other components may be reusable since they are substantially not directly exposed to the sample during operation of the viscosity measuring assembly.
