APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE MEASUREMENT OF HYDROGEN DIFFUSIVITY
Apparatuses and methods of measuring a hydrogen diffusivity of a metal structure including during operation of the metal structure, are provided. A hydrogen charging surface is provided at a first location on an external surface of the structure. In addition, a hydrogen oxidation surface is provided at a second location adjacent to the first location on the external surface of the structure. Hydrogen flux is generated and directed into the metal surface at the charging surface. At least a portion of the hydrogen flux generated by the charging surface is diverted back toward the surface. A transient of the diverted hydrogen fluxes measured, and this measurement is used to determine the hydrogen diffusivity of the metal structure in service.
Fluidic device
Methods for determining the lateral diffusion of one or more components are provided.
GAS DIFFUSION SIMULATION METHOD AND APPARATUS THEREFOR
A gas diffusion simulation method for simulating diffusion of a gas in a porous material having many pores, the method includes: calculating, in the pores, a Knudsen diffusion coefficient based on the mean square displacement of first gas particles in spaces surrounded by wall surfaces and a Knudsen diffusion term using the Knudsen diffusion coefficient, calculating an interdiffusion term using an interdiffusion coefficient between the first gas particles and second gas particles different therefrom, and performing simulation of the gas diffusion of the first gas particles by using a diffusion equation of the first gas particles represented by the sum of the Knudsen diffusion term and the interdiffusion term.
X-RAY ASSISTED ELECTRON MICROSCOPY STAINING PROCEDURE
Disclosed are a procedure and system for live monitoring of staining quality and heavy metal diffusion during electron microscopy preparation protocols for biological samples. The disclosed approach employs x-rays via, e.g., a commercially available micro-CT device, to observe and measure the diffusion and distribution of the heavy metals during conventional biological sample staining procedures for electron microscopy. This allows one to observe and check the quality and homogeneity of the staining without damaging or destroying the sample.

METHOD FOR MEASURING THE DIFFUSION COEFFICIENT OF WATER WITHIN A POROUS MEDIUM BY A NUCLEAR MAGNETIC RESONANCE METHOD
The present invention relates to a method of measuring the diffusion coefficient of water in a porous medium, wherein the coefficient is measured using a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique (2, 3, 4) and wherein the sample (1) has the shape of a hollow cylinder.
Viscosity measurements based on tracer diffusion
A method is provided for measuring the viscosity of a fluid sample. The method comprising the steps of: (ii) providing a flow of the fluid sample; (iii) providing a component flow, wherein the component flow is a flow of the fluid sample further comprising a tracer component; (iv) generating a laminar flow of the flow (ii) with the flow (iii) in a diffusion channel, such as a microfluidic diffusion channel (2); (iv) measuring the lateral diffusion of the tracer component across the flows; and (v) determining the viscosity of the fluid from the measured diffusion profile, wherein the size of the tracer component is known or is determined.
Diffusion cells and related methods
A method of performing a diffusion test includes clamping a membrane to a body such that a first surface of the membrane is in fluid communication with an interior chamber of the body and a second surface of the membrane is exposed to ambient air, flowing a substance through the ambient air such that at least a portion of the substance lands on the second surface while the membrane is vertically oriented, and determining a concentration of the substance in the interior chamber after some of the substance has diffused through the membrane.
Permeability evaluation method
A permeability evaluation method for evaluating permeability of heavy metal ions through a specimen, comprising a step of, in a state in which a first liquid containing heavy metal ions and a second liquid containing water and an organic solvent are separated by a specimen, applying a voltage between a positive electrode provided on the side of the first liquid and a negative electrode provided on the side of the second liquid and measuring the value of the current flowing between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, wherein the specimen contains an insulating material used in semiconductor production, and the heavy metal ion concentration of the first liquid is 0.5 mg/kg or more.
