Integrated biocontainment cell sorter
Disclosed is an integrated biocontainment cell sorter that isolates portions of the cell sorter that can create contamination. Two containment systems are utilized. A main cabinet containment system contains input samples. An aerosol management containment area includes a nozzle chamber with a nozzle and a sort chamber with sort plates and collection media that collect a droplet stream from the nozzle. The main cabinet is maintained at a first low pressure and clean air is recirculated under a positive pressure. The aerosol management containment area is kept at a second low pressure, which is lower than the first pressure, so that contamination does not leak from the aerosol management containment area into the main cabinet containment area. A sliding sash window is located over an access opening in the main cabinet and can be moved to access different portions of the main cabinet without changing the substantially constant first low pressure in the main cabinet.
Detection of surface particles on chamber components with carbon dioxide
A stream including at least one of solid CO.sub.2 particles or CO.sub.2 droplets is directed toward an article including surface particles. The stream causes at least a portion of the surface particles on the article to dislodge from a surface of the article. A purge cycle to transport at least a portion of the dislodged surface particles away from the surface of the article is initiated. The purge cycle includes generating a laminar flow at a first velocity for a first time period and subsequently generating a laminar flow at a second velocity for a second time period. A determination is made of whether a number of particles transported away from the surface of the article satisfies a particle criterion. In response to a determination that the number of particles transported away from the article does not satisfy the criterion, the purge cycle is re-initiated.
Control of particle delivery in contamination test rig
Systems and methods for control of the delivery of contaminates are provided. A conveyor moves contaminate particles from a hopper into an airflow. The contents of a hopper at multiple time points within a sliding window of time are weighted with a scale. A processor applies linear regression to a data set comprising the time points as an independent variable and the weight measurements as a dependent variable, resulting in a determination of a line fitting the data set. A processor determines a current mass flow rate of the contaminate particles from the slope of the line. The processor determines an estimated change in the conveyor motor speed needed to achieve the target mass flow rate, the estimated change determined from a predetermined mapping of flow rates to motor speeds, the estimated change based on the current mass flow rate, the target mass flow rate, and a predetermined fraction.

Measuring system for investigating concentrated aerosol particles in the gas phase
The present invention relates to a measuring system for investigating concentrated, larger aerosol particles of an aerosol in the gas phase, having a multi-stage aerosol particle concentrator and also a measuring chamber for analyzing the larger aerosol particles, with at least one measuring device for the qualitative and/or quantitative determination of the aerosol particles, in particular in real time. The aerosol particle concentrator separates a larger part of the aerosol with fine particles and concentrate the larger aerosol particles in the smaller part of the aerosol. The aerosol particle concentrator includes an aerosol suction pump generating a negative pressure in the virtual impactor stages and a circulating-flow channel in which a part of the separated aerosol with fine particles is returned in the circulating flow from the aerosol outlet to the aerosol inlet of the aerosol suction pump. The present invention also relates to a method for investigating concentrated, larger aerosol particles of an aerosol.
