An apparatus for artificial weathering or lightfastness testing of samples comprises a weathering chamber, a first light source provided in the weathering chamber, the first light source comprising one or more fluorescent UV lamps each comprising an emission spectrum with a maximum wavelength below a predetermined wavelength, and a second light source provided in the weathering chamber, the second light source comprising one or more light emitting diodes each comprising an emission spectrum with a maximum wavelength above the predetermined wavelength.
Method for Determining Degradation of Thermoplastics
A method of determining degradation of a thermoplastic when exposed to light and heat includes illuminating the thermoplastic with a desired wavelength of light at a desired irradiance while maintaining the ambient air surrounding the thermoplastic at a desired temperature. The method is useful to measure the discoloration rate of transparent, translucent and opaque thermoplastics such as polycarbonates, the discoloration rate being determined by transmission or reflectance spectra of transmitted or reflected white light through or from the thermoplastic.

Accelerated Deterioration Test Apparatus, Accelerated-Deterioration-Test Analysis System, and Accelerated Deterioration Test Method
An accelerated deterioration test apparatus (101) according to this invention includes a container (10) configured to be able to accommodate a sample (200) as a subject of an accelerated deterioration test for accelerating deterioration of the sample (200) as the test subject by using a deterioration factor for deteriorating the sample; and an introducer/collector (120) connected to the container (10) to introduce a gas or a liquid as the deterioration factor into the container (10) and to collect, during the accelerated deterioration test, a product that appears with the deterioration of the sample (200).
REAL-TIME OPTICAL COKING SENSOR
A gas turbine engine fuel system includes a fuel delivery system, an oil cooling subsystem, a fuel delivery conditioning system, and one or more optical coking sensors. The fuel delivery subsystem delivers fuel to a gas turbine engine and the oil cooling subsystem receives heated oil from the gas turbine engine. The fuel delivery conditioning system includes a fuel/oil cooler that is in fluid communication with the fuel delivery subsystem to receive the fuel and is in fluid communication with the oil cooling subsystem to receive the heated oil. The fuel/oil cooler transfers heat from the oil to the fuel to increase a temperature of the fuel, and the optical coking sensors output a signal indicating a thermal stress of the fuel that occurs with a changing temperature of the fuel. A controller receives the voltage signal determines an onset of coking in the fuel based on the signal.
