Versatile termination method for long cables
A method for creating a composite cable having at least one advanced termination on at least one end. An advanced termination is added to an end of a short synthetic tensile strength member. The strength of the tensile strength member and termination is then tested. Once tested satisfactorily, the short cable is spiced onto a long cable of the same type using prior art splicing techniques. The union of the short cable and the long cable creates a “composite” cable having a advanced termination on at least one end. In most applications it is preferable to set the length of the short cable so that the interwoven splice will exist at a desired location.
Method of measuring adhesive strength
A method of measuring adhesive strength includes setting an evaluation time (t.sub.e), fixing a substrate and an adhesive member to a measurement device, pulling the adhesive member fixed to the measurement device with a first measurement force (F.sub.e1) for the evaluation time (t.sub.e), pulling the adhesive member fixed to the measurement device is pulled with a second measurement force (F.sub.e2), which is obtained by increasing the first measurement force (F.sub.e1) by a preset amount, for the evaluation time (t.sub.e), and determining a reference measurement force (F.sub.es) which is a static force applied to the adhesive member when a distance by which a first portion of the adhesive member is detached from the substrate is equal to a preset distance (d.sub.t) is determined.

Systems and methods for testing internal bonds
A transducer assembly is provided. The transducer assembly includes a magnetic portion, a body, a tensile pulse transmitter, and a pulse and current control unit. The magnetic portion is configured to provide a magnetic field. The body is disposed within an opening of the magnetic portion, and has a conductive portion configured to pass electric current near a body surface oriented toward the test surface. The tensile pulse transmitter is disposed within a cavity of the body and configured to transmit a tensile pulse into the test object. The pulse and current control unit is configured to control the tensile pulse transmitted by the tensile pulse transmitter, and to provide a current that passes through the conductive portion of the body and the test object, whereby a force urging the transducer assembly and the test object toward each other is generated responsive to the magnetic field and the current.

DETERMINATION METHOD FOR LIP STICKING FORCE OF CIGARETTE TIPPING PAPER
A determination method for lip sticking force of cigarette tipping paper is provided. The artificial saliva is used to clamp the tipping paper and the artificial mouth skin that are bonded between two jigs, respectively. The two jigs move relative to each other. Force changes during the test are collected through a force sensor and a displacement sensor. The maximum debonding force obtained by the test is divided by the sticking area of the tipping paper and the artificial mouth skin to obtain the lip sticking force of the cigarette tipping paper per unit area. The present invention can accurately quantify the sticking force of the cigarette tipping paper to lips, can well avoid subjective factor influence and difference characterization brought by traditional personal sensory smoking evaluation, is more objective, efficient, has good repeatability, high sensitivity and simple operation.

Shear tester
A portable shear testing device includes a shear force unit that has two elongated jaw members that are positioned adjacent to each other. One of the jaw members can be moved away from the other, stationary jaw member. One of the jaw members is moved by a pivotally mounted lever that laterally moves a load transfer block connected to the jaw member. A digital load cell is positioned between the lever and the load transfer block and a threaded knob is rotated to press against the lever.

COATING BOND TEST METHOD AND METHOD OF MAKING A SPECIMEN FOR TESTING BOND STRENGTH OF A COATING
A coating bond test method includes, attaching with an adhesive a pull-off bar to a coating on a planar surface of a substrate for which a normal bond strength between the coating and the substrate is sought, reducing a first area defined by an interface between the substrate and the coating to a value less than a second area defined by an interface between the adhesive and the coating, urging the pull-off bar away from the substrate in a direction normal to the planar surface until failure occurs, and recording a load at which failure occurred.
