A novel multiple orientation construction for the ballistic protection, the process for making it and the main ballistic results obtained thereby. Said construction comprises at least a textile element and one or more thermoplastic or thermosetting based elements. The first textile element (1) comprises textile fibers. The second element (2) may comprise thermoplastic, thermosetting, rubber or polymeric elastomer based matrix arrangements or thermoplastic films for adjusting the textile construction characteristics according to the intended applications and for assisting in reducing bullet impact damages. The above elements jointly cooperate in absorbing and spreading a bullet impact stress.

Protective Garments

Garments made from a composite, protective fabric are disclosed. The composite fabric has microflex layers of woven para-aramid yarn placed in proximity to metallic mesh layers of woven stainless steel mesh. The individual poly-p-phenylene terephthalamide fibers in the para-aramid yarn have a denier of less than or equal to 2 dtex. The metallic mesh layers are woven from stainless steel fibers having a diameter of 0.2 mm or less and have a mesh aperture of 0.45 mm or less. The garments made using the fabric include gloves, bullet proof vests and chain-saw resistant trousers.

FABRIC HAVING A WATERPROOF BARRIER

Provided herein are ecologically friendly waterproof fabrics that include a base fabric having a body-facing surface and an outward-facing surface, and a hydrophobic, waterproof barrier disposed on the outward-facing surface of the base fabric. The base fabric may be a wicking fabric or may be treated with a compound that enhances wicking, and the hydrophobic, waterproof barrier may include a plastic polymer, polyurethane, polyethylene, and/or polytetrafluoroethylene. The waterproof fabrics also may include an abrasion-resistant coating and/or a PFC-free durable water repellant (DWR) agent disposed on an outward-facing surface of the hydrophobic, waterproof barrier, and one or both of the abrasion-resistant coating and/or PFC-free DWR agent may be discontinuous. Also provided are methods of making a waterproof fabric.

INTEGRATED PROTECTIVE GARMENT ENSEMBLE
20170115097 · 2017-04-27 ·

A textile assembly suitable for integration into a wearable article includes an outer layer having a distributed pattern of penetrations configured to facilitate load carriage, and a protective layer having filament and staple yarns, at least 25% of which have an average tenacity of greater than 15 gpd. The penetrations can be approximately 1 inch long and 0.25 inches wide, and can have a tear resistance when loaded with al inch wide webbing strap of greater than 50 lbf. The textile assembly can have less than 2% consumption per ASTM D6413. In embodiments, at least one layer of polymeric or elastomeric coating substantially encapsulates the yarns of the protective layer. Embodiments provide greater than 600 fps 2 gr RCC protection as measured using Mil Std 662F. The textile assembly can be sewn into a garment, which can be a pant, a shirt, or a jacket.

Protective Clothing System
20170071276 · 2017-03-16 · ·

A protective clothing system for protecting a user from high velocity particles and lacerating objects. The protective clothing system generally includes a clothing item having a front portion and a rear portion. The front portion of the clothing item is constructed of three to fifteen sheets of protective material to protect the front portion of the body of the user from high velocity particles and lacerating objects. The rear portion of the clothing item may have no protective material or significantly less sheets of protective material compared to the front portion to help reduce the weight of the clothing item. The joints of the clothing item corresponding to the human joints are relatively free moving to provide increased mobility to the user.

A protective element is provided with a flat first material layer of a low-fold material and a flat second material layer of a folded cut-retardant material. A surface area of the second material layer in a stretched-out state is 1.2 to 2.5 times greater than a surface area of the first material layer in a stretched-out state. The second material layer is placed in a gathered state onto the first material layer. The first material layer forms a gliding layer for the second material layer.

Protective sleeve for a medical device

Protective sleeve for a medical device having a moveable joint including a tubular assembly comprising a flexible material that satisfies International Organization for Standardization ISO13997 (1999) for a cut resistance of at least ISO level 5. The tubular assembly has a first end portion, a second end portion, and a length extending therebetween. The tubular assembly includes a base member made of the flexible material having an internal surface and an external surface and a reinforcing member made of the flexible material coupled to the base member along the internal surface and the external surface of the base member. The reinforcing member forms a channel at the first end portion. The tubular assembly has an internal cross dimension sized to receive a medical device having a moveable joint therein. The protective sleeve further includes an adjustment member received in the channel to radially adjust the first end portion.

A protective garment system fabricated from ballistic textiles having a V50 on 2 grain RCC of at least 300 fps as measured by Mil-Spec 662F provides good ballistic and fragmentary protection, and can be worn in lieu of conventional clothing without discomfort to the wearer. Embodiments overcome prior art ballistic fabric limitations by incorporating novel construction, such as plaiting and/or twill or satin weaving, as well as novel yarn selection, to enable comfortable skin contact, and by applying coatings to improve abrasion resistance, UV resistance, and color acceptance. Embodiments incorporate layers of ballistic fabric in critical areas, either by overlapping protective clothing articles, and/or by incorporating multiple layers of protective fabric into an individual protective garment. Embodiments provide good moisture transport for long term comfort. In certain embodiments, substantially all of the garment's mass is protective, including pockets, lapels, load carriage, and any other folded features.
