A concentration measuring instrument includes a piezoelectric vibrator transmitting an ultrasonic wave into a solution contained in a cavity and detecting the ultrasonic wave reflected, a temperature sensor measuring a temperature of the solution, a drive circuit generating a drive signal driving the piezoelectric vibrator, a phase comparator performing a phase comparison between the drive signal and a detection signal, a frequency setting circuit making the drive circuit generate drive signals having sequentially different frequencies and monitoring a phase comparison result to detect a resonant frequency, and a Phase Locked Loop (PLL) circuit making a frequency of the drive signal follow the detected resonant frequency. A microcomputer determines a concentration of a solute in the solution on a basis of the frequency of the drive signal while the PLL circuit is being operated and a result of a temperature measurement by the temperature sensor.
System and method for estimating both thickness and wear state of refractory material of a metallurgical furnace
A system for estimating both thickness and wear state of refractory material (1) of a metallurgical furnace (12), including at least on processor including a database of simulated frequency domain data named simulated spectra representing simulated shock waves reflected in simulated refractory materials of known state and thickness, each simulated spectrum being correlated with both known state and thickness data of the considered simulated refractory material, wherein the at least one processor is configured to record a reflected shock wave as a time domain signal, and to convert it into frequency domain data named experimental spectrum, and are further configured to compare the experimental spectrum with at least a plurality of simulated spectra from the database, to determine the best fitting simulated spectrum with the experimental spectrum and to estimate thickness and state of the refractory material (1) of the furnace (12) using known state and thickness data correlated with the best fitting simulated spectrum.

An example pre-amplifier includes a demodulator to combine a chirp signal with an acoustic emission signal to generate a sideband acoustic emission signal, sample spectral data of the sideband acoustic emission signal at an intermediate center frequency in an intermediate frequency bandwidth, and generate demodulated acoustic emission data based on mapping the sampled spectral data to a measurement center frequency, the measurement center frequency different from the intermediate center frequency, and a transmitter to transmit the demodulated acoustic emission data to a computing device.

One example system includes a microphone positioned to detect sound waves inside the vehicle, one or more sensors positioned on the vehicle and configured to sense a characteristic of a windshield of the vehicle, and an electronic processor communicatively coupled to the one or more sensors and the microphone. The electronic processor is configured to receive sensor information from the one or more sensors and to receive an electrical signal from the microphone. The electronic processor is configured to determine, based on the sensor information, whether a crack event has occurred. The electronic processor is configured to, in response to determining that a crack event has occurred, determine a cause of the crack event based on the electrical signal received from the microphone. The electronic processor is configured to execute a mitigation action based on the cause of the crack event.

A method of battery state monitoring includes: (1) providing a battery cell and at least one ultrasonic actuator and at least one ultrasonic sensor mounted to the battery cell; (2) using the ultrasonic actuator, generating a guided wave that propagates in-plane of the battery cell; (3) using the ultrasonic sensor, receiving an arriving wave corresponding to the guided wave; and (4) determining a state of the battery cell based on the arriving wave.
