Detection of hydrocarbon contamination in soil and water

A method for the detection of hydrocarbon contamination in a sample is disclosed. The method includes contacting a sample with a molecular probe. The molecular probe has a photoluminescence which is environmentally sensitive. The photoluminescence from the molecular probe is collected. The method includes determining whether the photoluminescence is indicative of a hydrocarbon contaminated sample. A test strip for the detection of hydrocarbon contamination in a sample is also disclosed. The test strip includes a molecular probe embedded in a substrate and/or immobilized to the substrate, the molecular probe having a photoluminescence which is environmentally sensitive to hydrocarbon contaminated sample.

The assay can detect one or more of a glycemic analyte selected from the group consisting of fasting plasma blood glucose, oral glucose, % glycated hemoglobin, and fasting insulin concentrations. In one embodiment, a container includes an absorbent body having a plurality of superimposed membranes (30, 32, 34, 36) where each membrane contains a reactant and a color indicator for detecting the presence of a selected analyte above a predetermined concentration in the fluid sample. The absorbent body and/or the assay include a color indicator that is able to provide a visual indication of the presence of one or more glycemic analytes present in the test sample.

The chemical indicator may be referred to as a moving front chemical indicator. A process for conducting a vaporous hydrogen peroxide (VHP) sterilization process using the foregoing chemical indicator is disclosed.

The apparatus also typically includes an inlet conduit configured to receive a gaseous stream comprising natural gas and provide the gaseous stream to the chamber; a pressure valve coupled to the exit port, the pressure valve being configured to actuate to release an amount of gas; and an indicator at least partially disposed in the chamber, wherein the indicator comprises a reactive material that is adapted to produce a visual change in the presence of hydrogen sulfide.
