A multifunction hat system is disclosed, comprising at least a head covering unit, an ear covering unit that can be removably or permanently attached to the head covering unit, and a face covering unit that can be removably or permanently attached to either the head covering unit, the ear covering unit, or both. Other modules, such as a scarf, ski goggles, earphones, safety lights, a helmet, and so on, may also be removably or permanently attached.

A neck shield or cover adapted for extending from the lower rear rim (or band) of a hat to provide entertainment/educational activities, affixed to the shield, for a very young child riding on the hat wearer's back. The sunshade can be an aftermarket item or incorporated into new hat constructions. Optionally, a camera and display screen may be added. A method of use is also claimed.

A center fabric band is sewn into the center opening and forms a center fabric band opening. A brim pocket is sewn to the bottom side of the straw hat brim. A retention device is sewn to the bottom side of the straw hat brim. A hard hat is secured to the removable straw hat brim when the hard hat crown is inserted into the center fabric band opening and the center fabric band squeezes tightly around the crown, when the hard hat brim is inserted into the hard hat brim pocket, and when the retention device secures the hard hat.

In embodiments each clip is adapted to position the brim extending outwardly from the cap in a manner that a wearer of the cap is shielded from the sun.
