Speed display
The invention relates to a method for the computer-controlled display of speed information, which represents the movement speed of a real moving object relative to the surroundings of the object, using an image display device. The speed information is displayed by generating one or more visually perceptible moving graphical patterns using the image display device, wherein the movement speed of the real moving object is reproduced by the one or more graphical patterns in a qualitative manner. The invention further relates to a device for the computer-controlled display of speed information, to a flying object with such a device, and to a computer program for this purpose.
Telematics devices and methods for vehicle ignition detection
Exemplary embodiments are provided of telematics devices and exemplary corresponding methods. In an exemplary embodiment, a telematics device generally includes a controller, a wireless communication module to transmit ignition information to a remote station, a power input terminal to sense a voltage of the battery, and an ignition input terminal to couple to an ignition line of the vehicle. The controller determines whether the ignition input terminal is coupled to an ignition line of the vehicle, and when the terminal is coupled to an ignition line, the controller determines vehicle ignition turn on and ignition turn off events by detecting voltage changes on the ignition line. When the ignition input terminal is not coupled to an ignition line of the vehicle, the controller senses the voltage of the battery of the vehicle to determine vehicle ignition turn on and turn off events based on sensed voltage changes of the battery.
Telematics devices and methods for vehicle speeding detection
Exemplary embodiments are provided of telematics devices and exemplary corresponding methods. In an exemplary embodiment, a telematics device generally includes a controller and a wireless communication module for transmitting data to a remote station. The controller is configured to periodically obtain the speed of a vehicle, determine when the speed of the vehicle has exceeded a first speed threshold, store the monitored speed as a max speed value, and compare each successive monitoring interval speed to a previous monitoring interval speed. When the successive monitoring interval speed is greater than the max speed value, the max speed value is updated. A speeding event occurs when each successive monitoring interval speed is above the first speed threshold for a speed duration, and/or when any successive monitoring interval speed exceeds a second speed threshold.
Motion detector with accelerometer and false tampering detection
A system for tamper detection of a motion detector. The system includes an electronic controller configured to receive orientation data from an accelerometer of the motion detector. The electronic controller is also configured to filter the orientation data of the accelerometer of the motion detector. The electronic controller is further configured to determine an orientation of the motion detector using the filtered orientation data. The electronic controller is also configured to identify a tamper condition of the motion detector based on the orientation of the motion detector. The electronic controller is further configured to activate an alarm device of the motion detector based on the tamper condition.
SHOCK SEVERITY ESTIMATION SOLUTION FOR USE IN ASSET TRACKING
Disclosed are systems, apparatuses, processes, and computer-readable media for estimating shock severity during handling or delivery of assets. For example, an example of a process includes capturing, by a device, a measured acceleration for an asset associated with the device; declipping, by the device, the measured acceleration for the asset to determine a reconstructed acceleration for the asset; determining, by the device, a velocity estimate for the asset based on the reconstructed acceleration; and determining, by the device, whether the asset has experienced a severe shock based on the velocity estimate.
Apparatus and method for gear detection
A method and apparatus is disclosed for determining the available gears of a geared vehicle based on the ratios of vehicle speed to engine speed, together with a method and apparatus for determining the current gear in which a geared vehicle is being driven based on the current ratio of vehicle speed to engine speed.
Apparatus and method for determining an advised driving speed
A method and apparatus for evaluating an advised driving speed of a vehicle traversing a particular portion of a road network is disclosed. The method comprises accessing first predetermined data indicative of the variation in average fuel consumption for the vehicle with speed of the vehicle, using the first predetermined data to determine data indicative of average fuel consumption for the vehicle for a plurality of speeds within a range based on a speed limit for the portion of the road network being traversed, and evaluating the advised driving speed of the vehicle based at least in part on the determined data indicative of average fuel consumption for the vehicle for the range of speeds. The evaluation of the advised driving speed may further be based on second predetermined data indicative of the variation in a likelihood of the vehicle being in the highest gear with speed of the vehicle.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING AN ADVISED DRIVING SPEED
A method and apparatus for providing an advised driving speed to a driver of a vehicle travelling on a road network is disclosed. The method comprises determining an advised driving speed of a vehicle for a portion of the road network currently being traversed, determining a current speed of the vehicle on the portion of the road network, and determining a speed limit and/or an expected driving speed for the portion of the road network. An indication of the advised driving speed is then provided to the driver of the vehicle when: (i) the current speed of the vehicle is greater than a first threshold value based on the advised driving speed; and (ii) the speed limit and/or the expected driving speed is greater than a second threshold value. A method and apparatus is also disclosed for determining a score indicative of the compliance of a driver of a vehicle to an advised driving speed during a journey on a road network.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING OPTIMAL GEAR ADVICE
A method and apparatus for providing an indication to a driver of a geared vehicle that the vehicle is not in an optimal gear is disclosed. The method comprises determining a current gear of the vehicle and determining a current speed of a drive unit of the vehicle. An indication is then provided to the driver of the vehicle that the vehicle is not in an optimal gear when: (i) the determined current speed of the drive unit is greater than a predetermined threshold; and (ii) the determined current gear of the vehicle is less than a maximum gear of the vehicle. A method and apparatus is also disclosed for determining a score indicative of the amount of time during a journey on a road network that a geared vehicle is driven in an optimal gear.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR VEHICLE ECONOMY IMPROVEMENT
A method and apparatus is disclosed for evaluating the driving of a vehicle performing a journey on a road network, comprising determining at least one constant speed zone of the road network, a constant speed zone being a portion of the road network at which the vehicle can travel at a constant speed, said determination being based upon expected speeds of travel along the road network determined from positional data relating to the movements of a plurality of vehicles over time along the road network. A speed of the vehicle traversing the road network is determined at a plurality of times during the journey, and a value indicative of a consistency of the speed of the vehicle within the at least one constant speed zone is further determined.
