ATHLETIC COLLAR
A device includes a collar and at least one pad. The collar is configured for wearing by a user, the collar having a plurality of pad receptacles. The at least one pad is configured for coupling with a selected one of the plurality of pad receptacles, the pad having an elastic portion configured to limit movement of a user.
ACTIVE NECK PROTECTION SYSTEM
A neck protection system includes a support structure, helmet, force transmission arrangement, actuator arrangement, sensor arrangement, and controller. The force transmission arrangement is coupled to the support structure and the helmet and applies a relative force between them. The actuator arrangement applies a load to the force transmission arrangement to initiate the relative force between the support structure and the helmet. The sensor arrangement measures movement changes of a vehicle. The controller is connected to the sensor arrangement to receive data representing the measured movement changes, and connected to the actuator arrangement, and generates and sends control commands to the actuator arrangement based on which the actuator arrangement applies the load to the force transmission arrangement. The controller receives maneuver information from a control computer of a vehicle and generates the control commands based on the received maneuver information and/or based on measurements of the sensor arrangement.
EMERGENCY PROTECTIVE HELMET
The emergency protective helmet includes a storage support worn about the neck, a series of curved elements mounted movable in rotation with the storage support worn about the neck and with each other at their ends so as to be able to switch between a first, functional deployed position, in which the curved elements form a protective structure, and a second, non-functional stowed position, in which the curved elements are housed in the storage support worn about the neck, the emergency protective helmet further including a compressed gas cartridge and a set of flexible tubes fluidically connected to the cartridge and connecting the curved elements to each other, the flexible tubes being arranged such that inflating the flexible tubes switches the curved elements from the second, stowed position to the first, deployed position.
Head and neck support and protection device
A head and neck support and protection device includes an arm that is pivotably mounted, at a first end, to a support and has at a second end a slidably-mounted element connected to a helmet clip. The helmet clip engages a helmet pin. A resistance block transfers energy into a vehicle chassis when the arm hits the resistance block. The slidably-mounted element slides out of the arm, in a controlled manner, when conditions indicating a crash have been met.
System and method for head and spine immobilization and protection
The present invention relates to a device that stabilizes or protects the head or spine from injuries. An immobilization device includes one or more pillars with multiple segments that protect the head or spine of a user. The pillars typically run along the part of the head and spine and pelvis that the device protects. A cable or wire runs through these segments in the pillars. By design, when the pillars of the invented system are not activated and the system is in normal use, the pillars are designed to be as flexible as possible and allow full physiologic motion of the protected body part. Activation of the system confers rigidity to the system and prevents or lessens harmful, non-physiologic motion of the body part intended to be protected. The present invention can further include a caudal extension used to connect to vehicle.
Helmet and shoulder pad assembly
A helmet and shoulder pad assembly for protecting a user from a concussion injury includes a pair of shoulder pads that is wearable on a user's shoulders during athletic activity. A helmet is hingedly coupled to the shoulder pads and the helmet is positionable in a closed position to cover the user's head. The helmet is coupled to the shoulder pads when the helmet is positioned in the closed position thereby facilitating the helmet to transfer impact energy into the shoulder pads. In this way the helmet inhibits the user from suffering a concussion injury. The helmet is positionable in an open position to expose the user's head.
Protective headgear, impact diffusing systems and methods
An impact diffusing system for protecting a user's head includes a headpiece cage coupled to a thoracic framework. In one aspect, the headpiece cage includes at least two support bars, a plurality of rigid bars surrounding at least a portion of the forehead, top, and sides of the head, and a face mask that encloses at least a portion the user's face. The thoracic framework covers at least a portion of a chest, upper back, and shoulders of the user, and the thoracic framework is attached to the support bars of the headpiece cage in a manner that prevents movement of the headpiece cage relative to the thoracic framework. In another aspect, the system includes a helmet component (formed of e.g., carbon fiber) coupled to a thoracic cage, wherein the helmet component is a solid, unitary piece that surrounds the top, back, and sides of the user's head.
Device to reduce traumatic brain injury
A device for reducing traumatic brain injury comprises a first sensor, a first linkage element, and a processing element. The first sensor is coupled to a head component and configured to measure an acceleration of a user's head and to generate a sequence of real-time measured samples. The first linkage element is configured to connect the head component to a body component and is able to switch between a first state in which it is relatively flexible and a second state in which it is relatively rigid. The first linkage element is switched from its first state to its second state by a locking signal. The processing element is configured to receive the real-time measured samples and to generate the locking signal when each of a portion of the real-time measured samples is greater than one of a corresponding portion of a plurality of dynamic concussion thresholds.
ACTIVATION SYSTEM FOR WEARABLE AIRBAG
An airbag system for protecting a body part of a user in case of an accident is provided, including an airbag arranged as a collar. The collar includes a first fastening body and a second fastening body. The first fastening body has at least one magnet arranged near at least one sensor, and the second fastening body includes a shield operable to magnetically shield the at least one sensor from the at least one magnet.
Helmet system and safety device for use with a helmet
A helmet system has a restraint feature for deterring neck injuries that includes a helmet having an attachment member at the rear of the helmet and a tether coupled to the attachment member at the rear of the helmet. The tether couples the helmet to a part of the body of a user in order to limit movement of the helmet. A safety feature for use with a helmet in order to deter neck injuries includes a tether having a first connector at one end for fixedly mating with a helmet and a second connector at the other end for mating with a part of a body of a user. The tether is positionable in the rear neck area of a user.
