Techniques for construction of an electric meter base level printed circuit board (PCB), such as for use in an electric consumption meter, are described herein. A plurality of heavy copper traces may be embedded in the PCB, thereby eliminating the need for heavy copper bar between connectors and components on the board. In one example, a PCB includes connectors for incoming and outgoing line and neutral conductors. The PCB may include a current measuring component, mounted on the PCB, to communicate with metrology circuitry. The PCB may include one or more switches, configured to regulate electrical service. Heavy electrical traces may be embedded in the PCB to connect the connectors and various components mounted on the PCB. The heavy electrical traces are sized to allow passage of currents that may be in excess of 100 amps.

PLUG-THROUGH POWER METER WITH PLANAR PROFILE
20180003739 · 2018-01-04 ·

An improved energy meter is presented that achieves a vastly smaller form factor than prior systems. The energy meter occupies an unobtrusive and essentially two-dimensional volume, 11 1/16, and meters loads plugged through it and into an outlet. Despite its small size, the energy meter is a wireless true power meter, capable of metering real, reactive, and apparent power at kHz frequencies, aggregating these measurements into cumulative energy, and transmitting these data several times per second using a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) radio to a nearby smart phone or gateway. At a cost of $11 in modest quantities of 1,000 units, the energy meter is the smallest and lowest cost AC plug-load meter with 1.13% accuracy over a 2-1200 W range for unity power factor loads, and slightly worse for non-linear and reactive loads. This small form factor, coupled with easy access to and transport of the meter data, enables new applications.

Switching contactor

A switching electrical power contactor having a bi-blade type switch, has ferrous plates attached to the blades to increase the current carrying capacity and reduce the resistance of the switch. The contacts of the switches are arranged in pairs with at least one pair of contacts being arranged to close before another pair of contacts.

Electrical Contact Switch and Electrical Contactor
20170110276 · 2017-04-20 ·

An electrical contact switch for use in an electrical contactor, which comprises first and second electrical terminals, an electrically-conductive busbar in electrical communication with the first electrical terminal, and at least one fixed electrical contact which is attached to the electrically-conductive busbar. The switch also has an electrically-conductive moveable arm in electrical communication with the second electrical terminal, with at least one moveable electrical contact which is attached to the electrically-conductive moveable arm to form an electrical contact set with the fixed electrical contact. A fixed ferromagnetic element is positioned at or adjacent to a side of the electrically-conductive moveable arm proximate the second electrical terminal, and a moveable ferromagnetic element is provided in physical communication with a side of the electrically-conductive moveable arm which is opposite to the fixed ferromagnetic element. In a closed condition of the electrical contact set, the electrically-conductive moveable arm induces a magnetic field in the fixed and moveable ferromagnetic elements, and thus the moveable ferromagnetic element is magnetically attracted towards the fixed ferromagnetic element to thereby increase a contact pressure on the electrical contact set. An electrical contactor and method of preventing or inhibiting contact bounce of an electrical contactor are also provided.
