Measurement device and method of its operation
A measurement device, such as a power meter or power submeter, may comprise a frame disposed in a housing dividing an interior volume of the housing into a first volume and a second volume. An external power source is connected to the device in the first volume and the frame may serve as an insulative barrier between the first volume and an exterior it and the housing. The device may alternatively, or additional include, an user interface assembly that is configured to mounted in a same orientation regardless of an orientation of the device or housing of a device relative to the external power source.

An electricity meter includes at least one input terminal, at least one voltage sensor, and at least one current sensor, and a processor unit arranged to acquire the voltage measurements and the current measurements, and to detect a first period during which the source current is less than a first predefined current threshold, and a second period during which the source current is greater than a second predefined current threshold, to acquire a first voltage measurement during the first period and a second voltage measurement during the second period, and to detect faulty clamping between at least one wire and the input terminal when at least one detection value representative of a difference between a first voltage measurement and a second voltage measurement is greater than or equal to a voltage threshold.
Systems for detecting temperature and current events in a power grid and related methods
A system that detects temperature and current events in a power grid is provided. The system includes at least one sensor associated with an electric meter; a plurality of bus bars connected to the electric meter; at least one temperature sensor uniquely associated with each of the plurality of bus bars; and at least one current sensor uniquely associated with each of the plurality of bus bars. The system detects a plurality of temperatures and/or currents and compares the detected plurality of temperatures and/or currents to expected thresholds or threshold ranges for temperatures and/or currents in the system to provide a comparison result and determines if a notification related to temperature and/or current events in the system should be sent based on the comparison result.
Fail-safe retrofitting kit for a partial discharge monitoring system and a preinstalled voltage indication system (VIS)
A fail-safe device is disclosed for ensuring compatibility and reliable operation of a Voltage Indicator System (VIS) for a medium- or high-voltage apparatus in presence of a monitoring system with: a first and second fail-safe device terminal; the first terminal being connectable to an output terminal of a coupler, the coupler being provided in a medium- or high voltage portion of the apparatus, and the second terminal being connectable to an input terminal of the VIS, which is provided in the low-voltage portion; a third and fourth fail-safe device terminal, wherein the third and fourth terminals being electrically connectable to first and second input/output terminals of the monitoring system; and an electrical circuit connecting the first and second fail-safe device terminal and being adapted to compensate for electrical failure modes of the monitoring system such, that the VIS is operable in case the electrical failure modes occur.
Transfer Switch with Communication Capability
An apparatus for selectively coupling a load to a grid power source and an inverter that is fed electric power by an alternate power source includes a first node coupled to the load. A grid sensor senses a state of the grid power source. A grid relay couples the grid power source to the first node when in a closed state and decouples the grid power source from the first node when in an open state. An inverter relay couples the inverter to the first node when in a closed state and decouples the inverter from the first node when in an open state. A controller is programmed to: cause the grid relay and the inverter relay to closed when the grid sensor indicates available grid power and cause the grid relay to open when grid power is not available;. A communications circuit senses a current state of the controller and wirelessly communicates a change of state of a selected one of the grid sensor and the controller to a remote device.

An apparatus for selectively coupling a load to a grid power source and an inverter that is fed electric power by an alternate power source includes a first node coupled to the load. A grid sensor senses a state of the grid power source. A grid relay couples the grid power source to the first node when in a closed state and decouples the grid power source from the first node when in an open state. An inverter relay couples the inverter to the first node when in a closed state and decouples the inverter from the first node when in an open state. A controller is programmed to: cause the grid relay and the inverter relay to closed when the grid sensor indicates available grid power and cause the grid relay to open when grid power is not available;. A communications circuit senses a current state of the controller and wirelessly communicates a change of state of a selected one of the grid sensor and the controller to a remote device.
METHOD FOR PREVENTING THEFT OF ENERGY IN ELECTRICITY METERS THAT ARE INSTALLED INVERTED
A system includes a sensor configured at a first position to sense an orientation of an electricity meter. The electricity meter can be configured at a second position. The electricity meter can be configured at a normal orientation to measure delivered energy sent to one or more locations and received energy received from the one or more locations. The electricity meter can be configured at an inverted orientation to identify and measure the delivered energy sent to the one or more locations and the received energy received from the one or more locations. The sensor is configured to identify when the electricity meter is in the normal orientation, and when the electricity meter is in the inverted orientation. A display is configured within the electricity meter.
CLASSIFICATION OF MAGNET TAMPERING CONDITIONS ON A METERING DEVICE
A method and system for detecting tampering of an energy meter can involve, in a first phase: gathering magnetic field sample data, an average magnetic field strength, a minimum magnetic field strength, and a maximum magnetic field strength from a magnetic field condition applied to an energy meter by a magnetic sensor that measures a magnetic field in one or more directions, and using learning coefficients calculated from the magnetic field sample data and the average magnetic field strength, the minimum magnetic field strength, and the maximum magnetic field strength to classify with a classifier, magnet tampering conditions with respect to the energy meter. In a second phase, a magnet tamper event can be identified with respect to the energy meter when the magnet tampering condition classified by the classifier is greater than a magnetic detection threshold.
Electrical meter for determining a power main of a smart plug
An electrical panel or an electrical meter may provide improved functionality by interacting with a smart plug. A smart plug may provide a smart-plug power monitoring signal that includes information about power consumption of devices connected to the smart plug. The smart-plug power monitoring signal may be used in conjunction with power monitoring signals from the electrical mains of the building for providing information about the operation of devices in the building. For example, the power monitoring signals may be used to (i) determine the main of the house that provides power to the smart plug, (ii) identify devices receiving power from the smart plug, (iii) improve the accuracy of identifying device state changes, and (iv) train mathematical models for identifying devices and device state changes.

The present invention relates to a data concentration unit and an operating method thereof. To this end, the data concentration unit of the present invention includes: a substrate; and a data communication unit for collecting meter reading data of a plurality of customers through communications with power metering communication modems respectively connected to watt-hour meters provided for the plurality of customers, wherein the data communication unit includes at least one wired communication module for performing wired communication with power metering wired communication modems, and at least one wireless communication module for performing wireless communication with power metering wireless communication modems, and the wired communication module and the wireless communication module are inserted and provided into the substrate.
