OBJECT LOCATION USING OFFSET

A method for locating an object of interest using offset. The object may be a mobile platform, or portion of same, associated with a vehicle, or a pavement segment or feature of or on a pavement segment on which the mobile platform is located. The vehicle includes first and second fixed points having a known offset from each other. An image sensor whose field of view includes the second fixed point and a portion of the mobile platform provides image data which is used with the known offset to calculate the precise location of the object of interest.

Vehicle navigation system and method

A vehicle navigation system includes a camera and a controller. The camera is configured to render an image of a host-vehicle in a field-of-view of the camera. The camera located remote from the host-vehicle. The controller is installed on the host-vehicle. The controller is configured to receive the image and determine a vehicle-coordinate of the host-vehicle in accordance with a position of the host-vehicle in the image. The camera may be configured to superimpose gridlines on the image, and the controller may be configured to determine the position in accordance with the gridlines.

Vehicle navigation system and method

A vehicle navigation system includes a camera and a controller. The camera is configured to render an image of a host-vehicle in a field-of-view of the camera. The camera located remote from the host-vehicle. The controller is installed on the host-vehicle. The controller is configured to receive the image and determine a vehicle-coordinate of the host-vehicle in accordance with a position of the host-vehicle in the image. The camera may be configured to superimpose gridlines on the image, and the controller may be configured to determine the position in accordance with the gridlines.

A mobile device generates a series of instances of space learning data. The series comprises instances of radio data captured as the device traverses a path through at least a portion of a space. Each instance of radio data describes a radio environment observed by the device at a respective location along the path. The device determines a position estimate based at least on motion of the device determined based on signals generated by motion sensors. The position estimate is associated with a respective instance of radio data. The device receives an message indicating the device is located proximate a particular landmark within the space. The landmark is a location within the space that is associated with a user-provided or sensor-defined landmark description. Responsive to receiving the message, the device updates the series to include an indication that a particular location along the path is proximate the particular landmark.

Described herein are methods and systems for locating lightning activity. A server computing device receives, from a satellite that detects lightning activity occurring in a geographic region, location coordinates and time data associated with lightning activity detected by the satellite. The server captures, from at least one of one or more ground-based lightning sensors that detect lightning activity, lightning feature data for lightning activity detected by the at least one of one or more ground-based lightning sensors. The server computing device determines a location of the lightning activity within the geographic region using the lightning feature data and the location coordinates and time data. The server computing device transmits the determined location of the lightning activity to one or more remote computing devices.
