A surgical apparel system including a surgical helmet to which a garment may mounted. The surgical helmet includes an electrically powered peripheral device, such as a ventilation assembly, and a headband for removably securing the surgical helmet to the head of a wearer. The headband comprises a rear a portion including opposing ends defining a contact point configured to contact the head of the wearer. The rear portion may also comprise a support member disposed between the opposing ends. The support member may be offset distally from the contact points such that the support member defines a void between the head of the wearer and the headband to allow the hair to collect between the head of the wearer and the support member.

Protective Headgear

A protective headgear includes two air chambers connected through a fan. Each air chamber has a fabric filter with a large surface area. A frame with a fan compartment and headband engages a person's head and forms a boundary to air flow around the head between the two air chambers. Air flows between the two air chambers primarily through the fan. One air chamber is formed above the head and is at lower pressure than air outside the headgear. Another air chamber is formed around the face and is at higher pressure than air outside the headgear. The fan draws air through a fabric filter to provide filtered air into the air chamber around the face, providing breathing volume and positive pressure protection. Exhaled air dissipates out of the headgear through a fabric filter forming part of the air chamber around the face.

Face and Head Shield

A protective shield features a single-piece transparent dome or shell having a rear opening through which facial and cranial regions of a user's head are received, thereby providing improved coverage over conventional face shields that cover the face only. Inward protrusions at a transitional region between the facial and cranial portions of the shield rest against the forehead to offset the facial portion of the shield forwardly of the user's face to allow airflow, optionally introduced from an external fan via an airflow channel integrally formed in the cranial portion. A flexible connector clip has a J-shaped profile for engaging an out-turned flange around the boundary of the shield s rear opening, to enable clipped connection of a bib or shroud. Support protrusions in an underside of the cranial portion maintain airspace above the head, which is further optimized by a rearwardly sloped incline of the cranial portion.
