Methods and systems for characterizing a hydrocarbon-bearing rock formation using electromagnetic measurements
Methods and systems are provided for characterizing a subterranean formation that involve the generation of four 3D geological model of the formation that are updated before and after an enhanced hydrocarbon production process.
Multimode steering and homing system, method and apparatus
A boring tool is movable through the ground. A transmitter supported by the boring tool transmits an electromagnetic homing signal. A portable device monitors the electromagnetic homing signal and receives the electromagnetic homing signal in a homing mode for guiding the boring tool to a target position. A processor generates steering commands for guiding the boring tool based on a bore plan in a steering mode such that at least some positional error is introduced without using the electromagnetic homing signal. Switching from the steering mode to the homing mode is based on monitoring of the electromagnetic homing signal as the boring tool approaches the portable device to then guide the boring tool to the target position location in compensation for the positional error. Intermediate target positions are described as well as guiding the boring tool based on the homing signal so long as the portable device receives the signal.
OBJECT LOCATION USING OFFSET
An apparatus for locating an object of interest using offset. The object may be a mobile platform, or portion of same, associated with a vehicle, or a pavement segment or feature of or on a pavement segment on which the mobile platform is located. The vehicle includes first and second fixed points having a known offset from each other. An image sensor whose field of view includes the second fixed point and a segment of the pavement surface provides image data which is used with the known offset to calculate the precise location of the object of interest.
INTERPRETATION OF DIELECTRIC TOOL MEASUREMENTS USING GENERAL MIXING LAWS
Methods for determining water-filled porosity using a general volumetric mixing law and the measurements of a dielectric tool are described. The water-filled porosity estimates are used to obtain water salinity estimates and the optimal parameters of the volumetric mixing law. These estimates are in turn used to generate novel quality indicators.
Method for optimizing an electromagnetic measurement sensor array
An exemplary inventive optimization model delineates a three-dimensional geometric environment for situation therein of electromagnetic sources and an electromagnetic sensor array used for measuring electric and magnetic fields emanating from the electromagnetic sources. Based on measurements and computations relating to electrical, magnetic, and structural physical properties, the geometric environment is stratified into air, sea, and seafloor regions as well as into electromagnetically distinct zones. The design of the electromagnetic sensor array is optimized through an iterative process involving successive determinations as to how well the electric and magnetic fields emanating from the electromagnetic sources may be calculated based on measurements taken in the geometric environment by the electromagnetic sensor array. Every instance of the electromagnetic sensor array in the iterative process is uniquely located and/or uniquely configured vis-à-vis every other instance. Design optimization can be performed with respect to various frequencies or frequency ranges.
Capacitance sensor
A capacitance sensor includes a switch control unit that performs a first switching process that turns on a first switch and then repeatedly performs a second switching process that complementarily switches off and on second and third switches that are respectively connected to second and third capacitors; an obtaining unit that calculates, as a sensor output value, a number of times the second switching process is repeated until a magnitude relationship reverses between an intermediate potential and a reference potential; a calculation unit that calculates a sensor output corrected value obtained by correcting the sensor output value such that a resolution becomes uniform; and a determination unit that determines whether a detection target exists from a magnitude relationship between a sensor output difference value and a determination threshold value.
FLOOR-MOUNTED SECURITY DEVICE ACTIVATED BY WEIGHT FOR TESTING METAL OBJECTS
A floor-mounted security device able to test personnel for metal material carried in or at the bottom of their footwear includes an induction module, a pressure sensing module, and an automatic alarm module. The pressure sensing module senses weight and pressure of a person standing, and outputs a trigger signal to the induction module to trigger operation of the induction module. The induction module can detect the presence of a metal mass by the change in a magnetic field, and output a control signal accordingly. The automatic alarm module outputs an alarm when prompted by the control signal.
