Optical ground tracking apparatus, systems, and methods
Apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed for tracking movement over the ground or other surfaces of tools or instruments or equipment, such as buried object locators or other devices, and generating motion, position, location, mapping and/or related information for tracked locations, as well as measuring and storing associated signals and other information detected or generated during tracking.
PORTABLE METAL DETECTOR
The present invention relates to a portable metal detector adapted for detection of dangerous metallic items carried by individuals, for example during access to a departure lounge in an airport, comprising a casing which houses a transmitter/receiver winding, the casing being extended by a gripping and handling handle, and a processor which feeds a loop of the winding to generate a magnetic field and which detects perturbations of the magnetic field caused by the environment, characterised in that the detector comprises a sensor for detecting orientation of the detector in a vertical position of the handle and which, when the detector is in a vertical position, activates a single dynamic detection mode of the winding whereas, when the detector is in another position, it activates a static operating mode of the winding.

Advanced steering tool system, method and apparatus
A steering tool is movable by a drill string to form an underground bore along an intended path. A sensing arrangement of the steering tool detects its pitch and yaw orientations at a series of spaced apart positions along the bore, each position is characterized by a measured extension of the drill string. The steering tool further includes a receiver. At least one marker is positioned proximate to the intended path, for transmitting a rotating dipole field to expose a portion of the intended path to the field for reception by the receiver. The detected pitch orientation, the detected yaw orientation and the measured extension of the drill string are used in conjunction with magnetic information from the receiver to locate the steering tool. The steering tool may automatically use the magnetic information when it is available. A customized overall position determination accuracy can be provided along the intended path.

Generation of buffer zones for buried assets using line forming processes
A system for generating a buffer zone around a buried asset at an above surface location is provided. The system includes an electromagnetic locator device for generating a plurality of buried asset data points via a plurality of radio frequency antennas. The system also includes a server for generating a plurality of connected line segments that represent a geographical position of the buried asset, wherein the plurality of connected line segments are generated by executing an optimization algorithm based on the plurality of buried asset data points, wherein the optimization algorithm: i) minimizes a total number of line segments, ii) minimizes a distance between a line segment and a corresponding buried asset data point, iii) minimizes instances of line segments that are parallel and iv) minimizes line segments shorter than a predefined threshold, and generates a first data structure that represents a two dimensional area comprising a buffer zone.
