Turbulence data obtained by a plurality of communication devices may be received during flights onboard respective ones of a plurality of airplanes. Turbulence map data may be generated by super-positioning the turbulence data received from the plurality of communication devices onto a single tempo-spatial frame of reference. The turbulence map data may be distributed to one or more of the communication devices. A device, system and method is also provided for generating turbulence map data that may reduce or eliminate false positive turbulence events. Turbulence map data may be generated for the airspace region based on a minimum of different turbulence values. The turbulence map data of at least the airspace region may be transmitted to one or more communication devices based on the minimum of the turbulence values.

AVIATION WEATHER CONTROL SYSTEM

According to one embodiment, there is provided an aviation weather control system including: a processing unit configured to receive weather information of an area to be overseen including a vertically integrated liquid water content, and specify a weather phenomenon affecting an airplane based on the received weather information; and a notification unit configured to notify the weather phenomenon specified by the processing unit.

Adaptive sensing for a gas leak detection

A method, a system and an apparatus for adaptively sensing a gas leak. The method includes: obtaining wind data from a wind sensor, identifying at least one wireless mote in a plurality of wireless motes that is most likely to detect a gas plume from the wind data, activating the identified at least one wireless mote to trigger measuring gas concentration of the gas plume, and identifying the location of the gas leak if the gas concentration is above a predetermined threshold. Also included is a system for adaptively sensing a gas leak having a wind sensor, a plurality of wireless motes and a server in communication therewith. An apparatus for adaptively sensing a gas leak in an industrial site is also provided.

Tether-Based Wind Estimation

A method includes causing an aerial vehicle to deploy a tethered component to a particular distance beneath the aerial vehicle by releasing a tether connecting the tethered component to the aerial vehicle. The method also includes obtaining, from a camera connected to the aerial vehicle, image data that represents the tethered component while the tethered component is deployed to the particular distance beneath the aerial vehicle. The method additionally includes determining, based on the image data, a position of the tethered component within the image data. The method further includes determining, based on the position of the tethered component within the image data, a wind vector that represents a wind condition present in an environment of the aerial vehicle. The method yet further includes causing the aerial vehicle to perform an operation based on the wind vector.

RUNWAY OVERRUN PREDICTION SYSTEM AND METHOD

A runway overrun prediction system for an aircraft includes a doppler wind measurement system and a runway overrun awareness and alerting system (ROAAS). The doppler wind measurement system is disposed at least partially within the aircraft. The doppler wind measurement system is configured to continuously measure a doppler signature of a wind field over an estimated touchdown zone on a runway ahead of the aircraft and supply wind data representative of the doppler signature. The ROAAS is disposed within the aircraft and is configured to determine a ROAAS model distance (RMD) for the aircraft. The ROAAS is in operable communication with the doppler wind measurement system and is coupled to receive the wind data therefrom. The ROAAS is further configured, upon receipt of the wind data, to adjust the RMD for the aircraft based on the wind data.
