SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR COMMUNITY PROVIDED WEATHER UPDATES FOR AIRCRAFT

Systems, apparatuses, and methods for acquiring information regarding weather conditions along a flightpath from other aircraft and incorporating that information into a flight path optimization and planning system. The system and methods may acquire substantially real-time information from pilots or other crew who have encountered a weather system or event (e.g., a wind direction or speed measurement, an observation of a storm or lightning, an observation of a difficulty in controlling an aircraft, unexpected excessive turbulence, etc.) and share that information with other airborne pilots or crew, either directly or using a ground-based server. The server may receive and process the acquired information and determine which aircraft may be likely to encounter or be impacted by a weather system or event for which it has received additional weather-related data and information.

Radar for weather detection and dynamic control and actuation of vehicle systems

Aspects of this disclosure relate to controlling one or more vehicle systems based on a determined weather condition. In some embodiments, a radar system can be mounted on a vehicle and can collect weather data by receiving electromagnetic signals. A weather condition can be determined based on the collected weather data, and a vehicle system can be controlled based on the determined weather condition, such as vehicle lighting, windscreen wipers, or cruise control. In some embodiments, weather conditions can include fog, sleet, or smog. The weather condition can be determined by analyzing scattered reflections from incident microwaves and/or radio waves to determine a level of attenuation of the scattered electromagnetic energy indicative of a presence or absence of particles. A map can be displayed displaying the weather condition and controlling vehicle navigation systems. The collected weather data can be compared with data from a LiDAR or camera system for reliability.

Advection fog forecasting system and forecasting method

An advection fog forecasting system and a method thereof are based on the recognition that wireless signal communication is subject to weather conditions. The system and the method involve collecting radio signals in a forecasting region that is likely to be shrouded in fog. Radio signals influenced by fog can show fog attenuation, and different levels of attenuation can be represented by different values of a radio signal strength indicator RSSI. With the variation curve of the radio signal strength indicator RSSI and weather variables, such as the humidity, the wind speed and the rainfall in the forecasting region, forecasting advection fog can be achieved.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR OPTIMIZING A NETWORK BASED ON WEATHER EVENTS

A device may receive historical network behavior data associated with a network that includes network devices and may receive historical weather data associated with a geographical location of the network. The device may receive historical action data identifying historical actions taken for the network in response to the historical weather data, and may train a correlation model, with the historical network behavior data, the historical weather data, and the historical action data, to generate a trained correlation model. The device may receive a weather event forecast associated with the geographical location, and may process the weather event forecast, with the trained correlation model, to determine an anticipated behavior of the network in response to the weather event forecast. The device may process data identifying the anticipated behavior, with the trained correlation model, to identify actions to take in response to the anticipated behavior and may perform the actions.

A weather station system is provided, comprising: a weather station having at least one sensor disposed at an intersection with a traffic cabinet; an interface card adapted for insertion in a detection rack of a traffic cabinet. The card has embedded firmware to receive data from the at least one sensor of the weather station and communicate the data to at least one remote computing device for processing with data of other weather stations. A weather data processing system and a method of retrieving localized weather data are also provided.

System and method for using weather applied metrics for predicting the flight of a ball

A system and method for using weather applied metrics for determining the impact of weather conditions on the flight of a ball at an outdoor sports venue. Historical and current data for weather parameters, including wind, air pressure, humidity, temperature, and precipitation, are obtained to calculate the influence of each parameter on the flight of a ball. The influences of each of the parameters are summed to model the flight of the ball based on the current weather conditions. Weather instruments, such as weather sensors, anemometers, LiDAR and SODAR devices, weather consoles, data routing devices, and processors can be included in a system for using weather applied metrics to predict the flight of a ball based on current weather conditions.

ALTITUDE DETERMINATION ACCORDING TO CROWD SOURCED BAROMETRIC PRESSURE MEASUREMENTS

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a process that formulates an inference that a first group of mobile devices are at ground level, and obtains, for the first group of mobile devices, positions and barometric pressure readings. Ground heights with respect to a common reference height are determined for the first group of mobile devices, and reference barometric pressures are calculated for the first group of mobile devices, at the common reference height according to the barometric pressure readings and the determined ground heights. At least a portion of the reference barometric pressures are combined to obtain a reference barometric pressure. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Precipitation index estimation apparatus

A precipitation index estimation apparatus includes a data collection unit and an estimation processing unit. The data collection unit is configured to collect rain-related data for estimating a precipitation index indicating an intensity of precipitation within a predetermined period from vehicle state information generated in one or more vehicles. The estimation processing unit is configured to carry out a statistical processing of the collected rain-related data and estimate the precipitation index within the predetermined period. The estimation processing unit is configured to correct, before the statistical processing, a value of the rain-related data to be used for the statistical processing, according to speed of a vehicle at the time at which the rain-related data is acquired.
