Method and system for protecting against voltage surges

A method for protecting an electronic system against a voltage surge, which electronic system is connected to a telecommunication network and includes a control integrated circuit, the method including successively connecting the electronic system to a remote server containing meteorological data; recovering meteorological data originating from the remote server; analyzing by the control circuit the recovered meteorological data to assign thereto a danger level of the current or imminent meteorological event; and, when the assigned danger level exceeds a main warning threshold: sending by the control circuit a warning signal to a display terminal connected to the electronic system; displaying a first warning message on the display terminal from information contained in the warning signal, the first warning message warning a user of the display terminal of a risk of voltage surge due to the current or imminent meteorological event; and electrical isolating a port of the electronic system.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DETERMINING WHICH REFERENCE-LEVEL PRESSURES ARE USED WHEN ESTIMATING AN ALTITUDE OF A MOBILE DEVICE

Determining which reference-level pressures, from among a plurality of available reference-level pressures, are used when estimating an altitude of a mobile device. Different systems and methods determine isobars based on reference-level pressures of weather stations, and then use the isobars in different ways to identify particular reference-level pressures for use in estimated an altitude of a mobile device. One approach determines the smallest distance between an initial estimated position of a mobile device and a neighboring isobar, and then uses that distance to identify reference-level pressures. Another approach identifies reference-level pressures between an isobar on which an initial estimated position of a mobile device is location and a neighboring isobar. Yet another approach compares the number of identified reference-level pressures and/or locations of the identified reference-level pressures against threshold conditions before determining which reference-level pressures to use.

Corona detection system and method

A system and method for detecting electrical events, often a corona associated with an impending lightning strike, including a coupling mechanism configured to establish an electromagnetic connection with a conductive substrate to receive signals intercepted by the conductive substrate. A detector circuit converts and discriminates the received signals into output signals. An output mechanism records and/or transmits the output signals, as well as determines if the output signal represents a qualified event signal.

Lightning prewarning-based method for active protection against lightning strike on important transmission channel

A lightning prewarning-based method for active protection against a lightning strike on an important transmission channel includes collecting meteorological element data, and establishing a transmission line-specific lightning strike probability prewarning model; using a maximum probability of a lightning strike prewarning level as a lightning strike prewarning level; performing equivalence calculation on a large-scale regional power system, using a minimum sum of a power loss risk cost and a regulation cost as an optimized objective function, and establishing a power flow transfer optimization model; and comparing a sum of a regulation cost and load power loss risk cost caused after the tie line is disconnected if regulation is performed before a lightning strike, and a load power loss risk cost caused if regulation is not performed, and when the regulation cost is not greater than the load power loss risk cost, performing regulation before the lightning strike.
