Microstructured fiber optic oscillator and waveguide for fiber scanner
Described are optical fibers and scanning fiber displays comprising optical fibers. The disclosed optical fibers include a plurality of mass adjustment regions, such as gas-filled regions, positioned between a central waveguiding element and an outer periphery for reducing a mass of the optical fiber as compared to an optical fiber lacking the plurality of mass adjustment regions.
Heterogeneous integration of curved mirror structure for passive alignment in chip-scale lidar
A chip-scale coherent lidar system includes a photonic chip that includes a light source, a transmit beam coupler to provide an output signal, and a receive beam coupler to receive a received signal based on a reflection of the output signal by a target. The system also includes a transmit beam steering device to transmit the output signal out of the system, and a receive beam steering device to obtain the received signal into the system. A transmit beam curved mirror reflects the output signal from the transmit beam coupler to the transmit beam steering device. A receive beam curved mirror reflects the received signal from the receive beam steering device to the receive beam coupler. The transmit beam curved mirror and the receive beam curved mirror are formed in a substrate that is heterogeneously integrated with the photonic chip.
Chip-scale LIDAR with a single 2D MEMS scanner
A LIDAR system, LIDAR chip and method of manufacturing a LIDAR chip. The LIDAR system includes a photonic chip configured to transmit a transmitted light beam and to receive a reflected light beam, a scanner for directing the transmitted light beam towards a direction in space and receiving the reflected light beam from the selected direction, and a fiber-based optical coupler. The photonic chip and the scanner are placed on a semiconductor integrated platform (SIP). The fiber-based optical coupler is placed on top of the photonic chip to optically couple to the photonic chip for directing the a transmitted light beam from the photonic chip to the scanner and for directing a reflected light beam from the scanner to the photonic chip.
ADDITIVE MANUFACTURE IN METALS WITH A FIBER ARRAY LASER SOURCE AND ADAPTIVE MULTI-BEAM SHAPING
A system that uses a scalable array of individually controllable laser beams that are generated by a fiber array system to process materials into an object. The adaptive control of individual beams may include beam power, focal spot width, centroid position, scanning orientation, amplitude and frequency, piston phase and polarization states of individual beams. Laser beam arrays may be arranged in a two dimensional cluster and configured to provide a pre-defined spatiotemporal laser power density distribution, or may be arranged linearly and configured to provide oscillating focal spots along a wide processing line. These systems may also have a set of material sensors that gather information on a material and environment immediately before, during, and immediately after processing, or a set of thermal management modules that pre-heat and post-heat material to control thermal gradient, or both.
Virtual and augmented reality systems and methods
A method for displaying virtual content to a user, the method includes determining an accommodation of the user's eyes. The method also includes delivering, through a first waveguide of a stack of waveguides, light rays having a first wavefront curvature based at least in part on the determined accommodation, wherein the first wavefront curvature corresponds to a focal distance of the determined accommodation. The method further includes delivering, through a second waveguide of the stack of waveguides, light rays having a second wavefront curvature, the second wavefront curvature associated with a predetermined margin of the focal distance of the determined accommodation.
Nonrestrictive drive-type marking system and marking method thereof
In order to allow a worker to accurately and repeatedly mark an original plan on a working surface, provided is a nonrestrictive drive-type marking system including a nonrestrictive drive-type marking device, the nonrestrictive drive-type marking system including an input unit configured to receive data of content to be marked; a marking unit configured to mark the content corresponding to the data on a working surface; a driving unit configured to allow at least a part of the nonrestrictive drive-type marking device comprising the marking unit to nonrestrictively move on the working surface; a position detecting unit configured to sense position information of the nonrestrictive drive-type marking device; and a control unit electrically connected to the input unit, the marking unit, the driving unit, and the position detecting unit.
Calibration and alignment of coherent lidar system
A lidar system includes a light source to generate a frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) signal, and a waveguide splitter to split the FMCW signal into an output signal and a local oscillator (LO) signal. A transmit coupler provides the output signal for transmission. A receive lens obtains a received signal resulting from reflection of the output signal by a target. A waveguide coupler combines the received signal and the LO signal into a first combined signal and a second combined signal. A first phase modulator and second phase modulator respectively adjust a phase of the first combined signal and the second combined signal to provide a first phase modulated signal and a second phase modulated signal to a first photodetector and a second photodetector. A processor processes a first electrical signal and a second electrical signal from the first and second photodetectors to obtain information about the target.

A chip-scale lidar system includes a first light source to output a first signal, and a second light source to output a second signal. A transmit beam coupler provides an output signal for transmission that includes a portion of the first signal and a portion of the second signal, and receive beam coupler obtains a received signal resulting from reflection of the output signal by a target. The system includes a first and second set of photodetectors to obtain a first and second set of electrical currents from a first and second set of combined signals including a first and second portion of the received signal. A processor obtains Doppler information about the target from the second set of electrical currents and obtains range information about the target from the first set of electrical currents and the second set of electrical currents.
Three in one combination imaging module
A three in one combination imaging module comprising a light guide positioned in a light guide holder, a light emitting diode module, and a doublet or GRIN lens array held in a housing. The light guide holder and the housing comprise mating connecting elements. The connecting elements comprise locking elements, tabs, notches, slots, and clips that cooperate and interact in order to securely hold and accurately position each of the components in the housing without the use of adhesive. Light emitted by the light emitting diode module enters, travels through, and then exits the light guide and is received by the doublet or GRIN lens array and then focused on a sensor array and captured.
