CONNECTOR MEMBER, OPTICAL TRANSMISSION SYSTEM, AND ASSEMBLY METHOD FOR SAME
A connector member is configured to be optically connected to an optical cable and to be connected to an output device-side connector that fixes an output device-side end portion of the optical cable. The connector member includes a laser diode (photoelectric conversion portion) configured to receive and emit an optical signal; a flexible light guide tube configured so that one end portion of the light guide tube is optically connected to the laser diode via an optical path conversion member, and so that the other end portion of the light guide tube is optically connected to the optical cable; and a connector that fixes the other end portion of the light guide tube. The connector member is configured to be connected to the output device-side connector. The connector is capable of relative movement with respect to the laser diode.

Facilitating installation of fiber optic networks
An optical system architecture includes indexed optical lines that are indexed between first and second multi-fiber connectors; a first of the optical line having a first end terminated at the first multi-fiber connector; and a second optical line having a first end terminated at the second multi-fiber. An input of an optical splitter is optically coupled to second ends of the first and second optical lines. The optical splitter splits optical signals carried over the first and second optical lines onto output lines so that each output line carries signals split from the first optical line and signals split from the second optical line.

Illuminating structures with fiber optic lighting
A method of fitting a structural member having a passage with fiber optical lighting, the method comprising: a) drilling a first hole through the structural member across the passage and through opposite first and second surfaces of the structural member; (b) enlarging the first hole at the second surface of the structural member forming a second hole; (c) inserting a cable puller having a cable hooking end through the passage to a point such that the cable hooking end is disposed inwardly from the first hole and second hole; (d) inserting a first end of a fiber optic cable first through the second hold and then through the corresponding first hole; (e) securing the first end of the fiber optic cable against being pulled back through the first hole; (f) withdrawing the cable feeder from the passage, hooking the fiber optic cable by the cable hooking end; (g) pulling a second end of the fiber optic cable from the passage; (h) injecting curable material into the passage through the second hole to encapsulate at least a length of the fiber optic cable within the curable material; and (i) cutting the first end of the fiber optic cable flush with the first surface.
