COMPRESSION-FREE AND SINGLE-BEAM GENERATION OF A CARRIER-ENVELOPE PHASE-STABLE OPTICAL PULSE
The present invention is notably directed to methods and systems for generating a CEP-stable optical pulse of optical carrier frequency f.sub.i from input optical pulses, the input optical pulses having an optical carrier frequency f.sub.p and pulse duration T.sub.p. A birefringent medium, a non nonlinear medium, a dispersive optical system, a parametric device (DFG) are successively used to achieve the generation.
LIGHT CONVERSION SYSTEMS, METHODS, AND DEVICES
A nonlinear converter may comprise: alternating layers of a dielectric material and a metal material; a first refractive index of the nonlinear converter for a first wavelength (i.e., input wavelength or pump wavelength) between 207 nm and 237 nm, the first refractive index being less than 0.5, the first refractive index corresponding to metal fill ratio; and a second refractive index of the nonlinear converter for a second wavelength (i.e., output wavelength or SHG wavelength), the second wavelength being approximately double the first wavelength, the second refractive index corresponding to the metal fill ratio.
LIGHT MODULATOR AND LIGHT MODULATOR ARRAY
A light modulator includes a base layer, a metal reflective layer formed on the base layer, a modulation layer of a nonlinear optical crystal formed on the reflective layer, and a conductive pattern layer including a plurality of pattern portions arranged periodically in a first direction and each extending in a second direction, and formed on the modulation layer. The modulation layer changes a reflectance for object light by changing a refractive index when a voltage is applied between the reflective layer and the conductive pattern layer. The light modulator outputs the object light being incident from an upper surface side of the modulation layer, transmitted through the modulation layer, and reflected by the reflective layer to the outside as modulated light with an intensity modulated by the reflectance change.
MOLECULAR AGGREGATE FOR OPTICALLY-PUMPED NONRECIPROCAL EXCITON DEVICES
The present disclosure is directed to an optically active medium comprising dye aggregates and optionally a nucleotide oligomer or other nucleotide-based architecture, which may be used in in optical devices, in particular nonreciprocal devices (i.e., devices in which energy flows in one direction only), that can respond to differences in the polarization of light. An analysis is presented of the energy levels and the strengths of the optical transitions (changes in energy states) for a three-chromophore (dye) aggregate in which the chromophores are coupled with a J-like (i.e., end-to-end) stacking. Specific devices and methods of use are also disclosed herein.
Meta-material, devices and methods of use thereof
This invention relates to a device for rapid focus control of one or more lasers. The controlled beam (5), is refracted by the dynamic refraction device (1) whose refractive index is set by its response to the control beam (3). The invention can be used for rapid focus and re-focus of a laser on a target as might be useful in such industries as flat panel television manufacturing, fuel injector nozzle manufacture, laser material processing/machining, laser scanning and indirect drive inertial confinement fusion.
Tunable source bi-photons
The present invention provides devices, systems, and methods for producing bi-photons without the need for complex alignment or source design by the user. The invention provides a tunable source of high-brightness, high-visibility, bi-photons that can be configured for a number of applications.
Method and system for converting position or momentum correlation of photon pairs to a polarization entangled photon pair
A method of, and module for, converting position or momentum correlation of correlated photon pairs to a polarization entangled photon pair, and a source for polarization entangled photon pairs. The method comprises a conversion step of separating the correlated photon pairs into first and second groups based on their generated position at the crystal (position correlation) or their direction about the propagation axis (momentum correlation) and rotating a polarization of the first correlated photon pair group such that the polarization of the first correlated pair group is at 90 degrees relative to the polarization of the second correlated photon pair group; and a combining step of combining the first and second correlated photon pairs such that at least respective portions of respective spatial distributions of the first and second photon pair groups overlap with negligible wavelength dependent phase difference.
APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR OPTICAL NEURAL NETWORK
An optical neural network is constructed based on photonic integrated circuits to perform neuromorphic computing. In the optical neural network, matrix multiplication is implemented using one or more optical interference units, which can apply an arbitrary weighting matrix multiplication to an array of input optical signals. Nonlinear activation is realized by an optical nonlinearity unit, which can be based on nonlinear optical effects, such as saturable absorption. These calculations are implemented optically, thereby resulting in high calculation speeds and low power consumption in the optical neural network.
OPTICAL FREQUENCY COMB GENERATION IN INTEGRATED LITHIUM NIOBATE DEVICES
Kerr and electro-optic frequency comb generation in integrated lithium niobate devices is provided. In various embodiments, a microring resonator comprising lithium niobate is disposed on a thermal oxide substrate. The microring resonator has inner and outer edges. Electrodes are positioned along the inner and outer edges of the microring resonator. The electrodes are adapted to modulate the refractive index of the microring. A pump laser is optically coupled to the microring resonator. The microring resonator is adapted to emit an electro-optical frequency comb when receiving a pump mode from the pump laser and when the electrodes are driven at a frequency equal to a free-spectral-range of the microring resonator.
