OPTICAL MODULATOR
An optical modulator includes a first optical modulation section and a second optical modulation section which use modulation signals different from each other when applying a modulation signal to the modulation electrode and performing optical modulation. In addition, a light-receiving element is disposed on a substrate, and the light-receiving element has a first light-receiving section that detects optical signal propagating from a first waveguide which guides the optical signal output from the first optical modulation section. In addition, the light-receiving element also has a second light-receiving section that detects an optical signal propagating through a second waveguide which guides the optical signal output from the second optical modulation section.
OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE DEVICE
An optical waveguide device includes a substrate on which an optical waveguide is formed, and an object that is disposed on the substrate. The optical waveguide includes a mode conversion/branching portion that converts a mode of a light wave propagating through the optical waveguide and branches the light wave, and the object is disposed to cover a part or the whole of the mode conversion/branching portion or not to cover the mode conversion/branching portion when the substrate is viewed in a plan view. In a case where the object is disposed to cover a part of the mode conversion/branching portion, the object is disposed not to consecutively cover a section over a length of a predetermined value or higher in an advancing direction of a light wave.

The present disclosure belongs to the field of display technology, and particularly relates to a 3D display panel, a method for driving the same and a display apparatus. The 3D display panel is divided into a plurality of pixel regions and comprises a light emitting unit, and the light emitting unit includes a plurality of light emitting devices arranged in the plurality of pixel regions. The plurality of light emitting devices are configured to form a barrier pattern of alternating bright and dark bands during display of the 3D display panel.
SAW modulators and light steering methods
An electro-holographic light field generator device is disclosed. The light field generator device has an optical substrate with a waveguide face and an exit face. One or more surface acoustic wave (SAW) optical modulator devices are included within each light field generator device. The SAW devices each include a light input, a waveguide, and a SAW transducer, all configured for guided mode confinement of input light within the waveguide. A leaky mode deflection of a portion of the waveguided light, or diffractive light, impinges upon the exit face. Multiple output optics at the exit face are configured for developing from each of the output optics a radiated exit light from the diffracted light for at least one of the waveguides. An RF controller is configured to control the SAW devices to develop the radiated exit light as a three-dimensional output light field with horizontal parallax and compatible with observer vertical motion.
Modulator arrangement and method for fabricating a modulator arrangement
The present disclosure relates to a modulator arrangement, including at least a first and a second electro-optical Mach-Zehnder modulator. At least one optical waveguide of the first Mach-Zehnder modulator crosses at least one optical waveguide of the second Mach-Zehnder modulator. A method for fabricating a modulator arrangement is also disclosed herein.

An optical semiconductor device includes an optical modulator provided on a substrate, an optical waveguide provided on the substrate, one end of the optical waveguide being connected to a light emission side of the optical modulator and another end of the optical waveguide being present at an end portion of the substrate, a phase adjusting unit provided on a path of the optical waveguide and an optical amplification unit provided on the path of the optical waveguide, wherein a minimum value or a maximum value of a transmittance spectrum having a ripple that periodically fluctuates with respect to a frequency because of multiple reflection of light that occurs between the one end and the other end of the optical waveguide is matched with a wavelength of the light input to the optical modulator by phase adjustment of the phase adjusting unit, and an error vector amplitude is minimized.
Micro-disc modulator, silicon photonic device and optoelectronic communication apparatus using the same
Various embodiments of a micro-disc modulator as well as a silicon photonic device and an optoelectronic communication apparatus using the micro-disc modulator are described. In one aspect, a device includes a SOI substrate and a silicon photonic structure formed on a primary surface of the SOI substrate. The semiconductor substrate includes a silicon waveguide and a micro-disc modulator. The micro-disc modulator is adjacent to the silicon waveguide and has a top surface substantially parallel to the primary surface of the SOI substrate. The top surface of the micro-disc modulator includes one or more discontinuities therein. The micro-disc modulator may be a multi junction micro-disc modulator having two vertical p-n junctions with a single resonance frequency to achieve high-speed modulation and low-power consumption.
Advanced Spatial Light Modulators, Associated Systems and Methods
A spatial light modulator system includes a concentration layer including an array of optical concentrators, such that each concentrator concentrates a portion of an input light beam. A modulation layer includes an array of light modulators each in optical communication with one of the optical concentrators for modulating the portion of the input light beam. The light modulators are spaced apart from one another in the modulation layer to form gaps between adjacent ones of the light modulators. A coil of each light modulator can surround a Faraday element or core containing a Faraday material to control a magnetic state of a Faraday material responsive to control signals.
