Method for implementing folding MxN wavelength selective switch
A method for implementing folding M×N wavelength selective switch is provided. A one-dimensional single-mode fiber optic collimator array, a short-focus cylindrical mirror, a first long-focus cylindrical mirror, a retroreflector, a transmission phase diffraction grating, a second long-focus cylindrical mirror, a liquid crystal spatial light modulator, and a liquid crystal graphic loading control system are provided along beam transmission direction. The same set of optical elements is used for incident light and outgoing light by ingenious folding structure. The input port and output port of optical signal are consistent in spatial arrangement, thereby reducing space and improving port utilization. Based on composite liquid crystal chips, a working area of the liquid crystal spatial light modulator is doubled, and a quantity of accommodating ports is greatly increased. A quantity of M×N ports of the WSS can be increased greatly by the above structure and design.
Method and arrangement for influencing light propagation directions
A method for influencing light propagation directions of a light-emitting surface emitting light of a first wavelength range in a first direction and light of a second and wavelength range in a second direction. The wavelength ranges have a wavelength-dependent spectral radiance and differ in a peak wavelength. A switchable color converter is arranged in front of the light-emitting surface. The method includes the steps of a) deactivating the color converter for a first mode so that the second-wavelength range is transmitted and the first-wavelength range is absorbed, such that light from the light-emitting surface is only perceptible from the second direction, or b) activating the color converter for a second mode so that light of the first-wavelength range is converted into light of the second-wavelength range and light of the second-wavelength range is transmitted, such that light from the light-emitting surface is perceptible from both directions.
Laser beam output apparatus
A laser beam output apparatus includes a pulsed laser output section, an optical path determining section, a wavelength changing section, and a multiplexer. The pulsed laser output section outputs a laser beam having a predetermined wavelength as first pulses. The optical path determining section receives the first pulses and determines one among a plurality of optical paths for each of the first pulses for output. The wavelength changing section receives light beams traveling, respectively, through the plurality of optical paths and changes the light beams to have their respective different wavelengths for output. The multiplexer multiplexes outputs from the wavelength changing section.
ANGULAR PERFORMANCE OF APOCHROMATIC PANCHARATNAM BERRY PHASE COMPONENTS USING A C-PLATE
A near eye display (NED) includes multiple PBP optical elements combined with one or more C-plates to improve optical angular performance. The PBP optical elements may be configured for beam steering or for focusing light to a point. A C-plate may reduce or eliminate an undesirable polarization phase shift introduced by the PBP optical elements to angular, off-axis light. Birefringence of the PBP optical elements produces such a polarization phase shift. A C-plate provides an additional polarization phase shift that is opposite to the extra polarization phase shift by the PBP optical elements. Thus, the additional polarization phase shift by the C-plate at least partially reduces the phase shift by the PBP element.
