The backlight assembly includes a light source unit, a peep-proof layer on a light emitting side of the light source unit, a light adjustment layer on a side of the peep-proof layer distal to the light source unit, and a plurality of first microstructures between the peep-proof layer and the light adjustment layer and spaced apart from each other.

DISPLAY PANEL AND DISPLAY DEVICE

A display panel and a display device. The display panel includes a first light adjusting module and a display module. The display module includes a pixel unit having a plurality of pixels, the pixels include a plurality of sub-pixels. The first light adjusting module includes a first light-adjusting electrode layer, a second light-adjusting electrode layer, a first filling layer and a second filling layer. The first filling layer is filled with a first filling material with a refractive index of ns, and the second filling layer is filled with filler groups each including at least one filler and corresponding to the pixels. The refractive index ne of the filler along the second direction is greater than the refractive index no along the third direction thereof, and ns≈no. The fillers in the same filler group switches between a first deflected state and a second deflected state.

Display apparatus

A display apparatus includes a light source emitting light; a light guide plate having a first surface and a second surface, and spreading light emitted from the light source therein to emit light through the first surface; and a local dimming unit configured to pass or scatter light emitted through the second surface of the light guide plate according to a position. The local dimming unit may include: an electro-optical layer configured to which optical properties change according to an electric field; and a plurality of electrodes positioned on the same plane to generate the electric field.

Reflective optical stack for privacy display

A privacy display comprises a polarised output spatial light modulator, reflective polariser, plural polar control retarders and a polariser. In a privacy mode of operation, on-axis light from the spatial light modulator is directed without loss, whereas off-axis light has reduced luminance. Further, display reflectivity is reduced for on-axis reflections of ambient light, while reflectivity is increased for off-axis light. The visibility of the display to off-axis snoopers is reduced by means of luminance reduction and increased frontal reflectivity to ambient light. In a public mode of operation, the liquid crystal retardance is adjusted so that off-axis luminance and reflectivity are unmodified.

Holographic display system

A display system for a vehicle includes a display unit mounted to the vehicle and is selectively operable in a first mode as a holographic display and in a second mode as a mirror. Holographic images may include rear view images obtained from a camera or computer generated graphics. Holographic images are displayed at a virtual image plane behind the display to reduce the operator's eyes accommodation.

LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT

A liquid crystal display device and an electronic equipment are provided. The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel and an adjustable diffusion sheet configured to improve a light transmissive rate of a light transmissive region. The adjustable diffusion sheet includes a first sub-section corresponding to the position of the light transmissive region. When the light transmissive region is in a transparent state, the first sub-section is in a transparent state. When the light transmissive region is in a display state, the first sub-section is in a fog state.

Marks for privacy display

A switchable privacy display comprises a spatial light modulator with output polariser, a reflective polariser, a polar control liquid crystal retarder and an additional polariser. The electrodes of the polar control liquid crystal retarder are patterned with a mark. In wide angle and narrow angle operational modes, the electrodes of the liquid crystal retarder are driven such that the mark is not visible. In a mark display state, the electrodes are driven to provide visibility of the mark in reflected light to an off-axis observer.

Display with switchable retarder array

A display device includes a waveguide, an array of tunable retarders in contact with the waveguide, and a polarization selective optical element. A respective tunable retarder of the array of tunable retarders receives light from the waveguide. The respective tunable retarder has a first state, which causes the respective tunable retarder to direct light having a first polarization in a first direction and a second state, which causes the respective tunable retarder to direct light having a second polarization that is distinct from the second polarization in the first direction. The polarization selective optical element is located adjacent to the array of tunable retarders so that the light having the second polarization propagates from the polarization selective optical element in a second direction and the light having the second polarization propagates from the polarization selective optical element in a third direction distinct from the second direction.

Optical device including optically anisotropic molecules having intermediate pretilt angles

An optical element is provided. The optical element includes an optical film including a birefringent material having a chirality. Optically anisotropic molecules of the birefringent material disposed adjacent a first surface of the optical film are configured with a first pretilt angle in a range of greater than 10° and less than 80°, or in a range of greater than −80° and less than −10°. Optically anisotropic molecules of the birefringent material disposed adjacent a second surface of the optical film opposing the first surface are configured with a second pretilt angle in the range of greater than 10° and less than 80°, or in the range of greater than −80° and less than −10°.
