Disclosed herein are devices, methods and systems for implementing an electronic display with a dead-front appearance with a combination of polarizing devices. Specifically, the various permutations and combinations disclosed herein each include a linear polarizer, an active polarizer, and various combinations of linear and curved lenses, each being driven by light sourced from a backlight display.

The present invention provides a mirror display that can be enlarged without quality deterioration. The mirror display includes, in the order from a viewing surface side, a half mirror plate including a reflective polarizer, a polarization conversion layer, and a display device including an absorptive polarizer on a side of the polarization conversion layer. The reflective polarizer includes a transmission axis parallel to the longitudinal direction of the display device and is jointless. The absorptive polarizer includes a transmission axis perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the display device and is jointless. The polarization conversion layer is configured to convert the polarization of polarized light passed through the absorptive polarizer.

Disclosed herein is an electronic display with an improved dead-front presentation. The electronic display includes a backlit display configured to present content; and a dichroic guest host dye layer disposed on the backlit display. The display may incorporate a lens (in various positions), as well as a strategically disposed air gap. Certain implementations may employ curved lens technology.

The pixel array is arranged on the base substrate and includes a plurality of pixel units, and the light conversion layer is arranged on a display side of the pixel array. Each of the plurality of pixel units includes an optical resonant structure, and the optical resonant structure includes a first reflection layer, a second reflection layer and a dielectric layer. The first reflection layer is arranged on the base substrate, the second reflection layer is arranged on the first reflection layer and is parallel to the first reflection layer, and the dielectric layer is arranged between the first reflection layer and the second reflection layer.

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a display panel and a display device. The display panel includes a plurality of sub-pixels each comprising a display unit. The display unit includes a first electrode, a second electrode and a liquid crystal layer. A first black matrix pattern is disposed at a side of the liquid crystal layer facing the first electrode and a second black matrix pattern is disposed at a side of the liquid crystal layer facing the second electrode, the second black matrix pattern having an opening therein, the first black matrix pattern being disposed at a position corresponding to the opening.

A display device (100) includes: a display panel (1) capable of being in a transparent display state where a background scene is viewable through the display panel; a panel light source (3) that irradiates the display panel with colored light of a plurality of colors in a time division manner; a rear side light source (2) placed on a rear surface side of the display panel, the rear side light source being capable of emitting colored light of a plurality of colors in a time division manner; and a control circuit that controls emission timings of the colored light from the panel light source and from the rear side light source, wherein the panel light source and the rear side light source are synchronized by the control circuit such that colored light of different colors are not emitted at a same timing.
