The transferring unit has lugs moving on a circular path and conveys the articles to the receiving apparatus. The receiving apparatus conveys the articles axially and the lug reduces the speed at least in a part of the path of movement before the area and/or in the area for receiving the articles from the feeding apparatus to the transferring apparatus and increases the speed at least in a part of the path of movement between the area for receiving the articles from the feeding apparatus and the area for transferring the articles to the receiving apparatus. And a method of conveying rod-like articles of the tobacco industry from a receiving area to a transferring area.

A method involves placing a cigarette starter cone in a cavity of a holding fixture carried on a carriage at a first station, moving the carriage to a second station, loading a quantity of content into the cone at the second station by a content loading mechanism, moving the carriage to a third station, packing the loaded content in the cigarette starter cone at the third station by a packing mechanism flowing pressurized gas infused with terpene oil or vapor, moving the carriage to a fourth station, exposing the open end of the cigarette starter cone at the fourth station, clamping an exposed portion of the paper cone at the open end by a twister mechanism, activating the twister mechanism, rotating the twister mechanism at least one full turn, twisting the open end closed, and releasing the paper cone, and opening the holding fixture, releasing the packed and twisted-closed cigarette.

Transferring apparatus for transferring and method for transferring of rod-like articles of tobacco industry, and apparatus for conversion of configuration of a stream of such articles
The object of the application is a transferring apparatus (1) for transferring of a stream of rod-like articles (40) from an apparatus (100) feeding rod-like articles to an apparatus (200) receiving the rod-like articles in the machines of the tobacco industry, whereas in the feeding apparatus (100) the rod-like articles (40) are conveyed in a first stream (S1) of rod-like articles in which the rod-like articles are arranged in a first configuration, and in the receiving apparatus (200) the rod-like articles (40) are conveyed in a second stream (S2) of rod-like articles in which the rod-like articles (40) are arranged in a second configuration, comprising: a transferring wheel (30); non-slidable lugs (33) situated on the circumference of the transferring wheel (30); a guiding surface (34) to guide the rod-like article, the rod-like articles being conveyed axially, tangentially to the guiding surface (34); characterised by having a slidable lug (22) being slidable relative to the circumference of the transferring wheel (30) by means of a drive mechanism (10) so that the said slidable lug (22) varies its position relative to an adjacent non-slidable lug (33).
Compacting unit and method for the tobacco industry
A compacting unit for the tobacco industry includes a conveyor drum configured to convey groups of segments disposed perpendicularly to the feed direction. A first compactor and a second compactor have a first contact portion and a second contact portion, respectively. The first contact portion and the second contact portion are respectively adapted to be placed in contact with a first axial end and a second axial end of a group of segments in transit in the compacting station. The first contact portion is compliant, preferably elastically compliant, along a longitudinal direction of extension of the groups of segments upon interaction with the first axial end. The second contact portion defines a rigid abutment along the longitudinal direction of extension of the groups of segments suitable for setting a predetermined position for the second axial end.
ROLLING DRUM FOR A TOBACCO INDUSTRY PRODUCT MANUFACTURING APPARATUS AND METHOD OF ASSEMBLING TOBACCO INDUSTRY PRODUCTS
Embodiments disclosed herein relate to a rolling drum for use in a tobacco industry product manufacturing apparatus. The rolling drum has a peripheral surface configured to carry a collation of rod-shaped articles. The rolling drum comprises a plurality of ridges on the peripheral surface, each ridge comprising a trailing face and a leading face. The rolling drum comprises a plurality of suction holes for retaining the collation of rod-shaped articles. The plurality of suction holes are disposed at the trailing face and the leading face of each of the ridges. Also disclosed is a rolling apparatus comprising such a rolling drum, and a machine for assembling tobacco industry products comprising such an apparatus. Also disclosed is a method of assembling tobacco industry products using such a rolling apparatus or machine.
ORIENTATING A TOBACCO PRODUCT
Apparatus is disclosed for orientating a tobacco product containing a strip component. The apparatus comprises means for producing an image of the tobacco product, means for determining an apparent width of the strip component from the image, means for determining an amount of rotation of the tobacco product based on the apparent width, and means for rotating the tobacco product relative to the imaging mean by the determined amount of rotation. This may allow the product to be rotated such that the strip component has a known orientation with respect to the imaging means.
CUTTING AND ARRANGING RODS FOR TOBACCO INDUSTRY PRODUCTS
Embodiments of the invention relate to an apparatus for cutting and arranging rods for use in a tobacco industry product assembly machine. The apparatus comprises a first cutting mechanism for cutting a four-length rod into first and second axially-aligned double-length rods. Each double-length rod has respective remote ends. A positioning mechanism for moving at least one of the first and second double-length rods such that said first and second double-length rods are moved from a first configuration in axial-alignment, to a second configuration in which the first and second double-length rods are out of axial alignment and the axes of the first and second double-length rods are parallel and spaced apart, and the remote ends of said first and second double-length rods are substantially aligned with each other. Also disclosed is a method of cutting and arranging rods for tobacco industry product assembly, and a method of tobacco industry product assembly.
Apparatus for recovering tobacco material and related method
An apparatus and method for recovering tobacco material from tobacco rod sections is provided, each tobacco rod section including a wrapping paper wrapped about the tobacco material. The apparatus includes a centrifugal object-orienting device including a disc disposed at an incline within a cylindrical container, the cylindrical container and the disc being rotatable about a rotation axis such that the rotating cylindrical container and disc impart centrifugal force to the tobacco rod sections, the tobacco rod sections being responsive to the centrifugal force to orient lengthwise. A first conveyor device is configured to receive and convey in a conveyor direction the tobacco rod sections, with the tobacco rod sections being oriented lengthwise relative to the conveyor direction. A slitting device is operably engaged with the first conveyor device and configured to lengthwise slit the wrapping paper wrapped about the tobacco material of each of the tobacco rod sections.
