An image forming apparatus includes a printer configured to print an image, a reading unit having: a platen on which a document is to be placed; and a reading sensor configured to read an image of the document placed on the platen, a document feeder rotatably supported by the reading unit having: a stacking tray on which a document is to be stacked; a conveyance unit configured to convey the document stacked on the stacking tray to cause the reading sensor to read an image of the document; and a discharge tray on which the document conveyed by the conveyance unit is discharged, a display; and a controller configured to receive user instruction information for instructing to print the test chart; and control the printer to print the test chart on a sheet when the user instruction information is received.

An image reading apparatus includes a first opening/closing unit to openably and closeably support a sheet conveyance portion with respect to an image reading portion, and a second opening/closing unit to openably and closeably support the sheet conveyance portion with respect to the image reading portion. The first opening/closing unit includes a first spring to urge the sheet conveyance portion in a direction in which the sheet conveyance portion moves from a closed position toward an opened position, and the second opening/closing unit includes a second spring to urge the sheet conveyance portion in the direction in which the sheet conveyance portion moves from the closed position toward the opened position and an oil damper to attenuate vibration energy of the sheet conveyance portion. The first opening/closing unit does not include an oil damper.

An original reading apparatus includes: a reading unit configured to read an original placed on a platen while moving in a predetermined direction in a housing; a sensor provided in the housing and configured to detect presence of the original in a predetermined position on the platen to identify a size of the original; a holding member movable in the housing and configured to hold the sensor and a cable extending from the sensor; and a cover configured to cover a predetermined space on a rear side of the platen mounted to the housing. A grip portion used by an operator to move the holding member is provided at one end of the holding member extending to the predetermined space through an opening portion in a wall on a rear side of the housing. When the cover is removed, the operator is allowed to grip the grip portion.

Copy and scan printing may include scanning, by scanner disposed along a paper path between a paper delivery roller and a paper pickup roller, content of documents (302). Further, copy and scan printing may include determining whether the documents are to be copied (304), in response to a determination that the documents are to be copied, determining whether a page count of the documents to be copied is available (306), and generating copies of the documents (310).

An image reading apparatus includes an original illuminator; a reflector for reflecting light reflected by the original; a reading portion for reading the light reflected by the reflector; a holding member holding the reflection member; a first bonding portion connecting the holding member and one end portion of the reflector in a direction along a reflecting surface of the reflection member; and a second bonding portion connecting the holding member and the other end portion of the reflector in the direction along the reflecting surface of the reflection member. The notifier includes a displayer that displays the information by light. The displayer includes a first displayer disposed on the first side surface and a second displayer disposed on the second side surface toward the document placement section. The first displayer and the second displayer each have a horizontal length that is longer than a vertical length.

An image reading apparatus includes: a housing including a processing unit configured to process image information; an opening and closing member openably and closably provided on the housing, the opening and closing member including a reading unit configured to read an image from an image holding medium and configured to obtain image information from the image; a connection member that electrically connects the reading unit and the processing unit; and a protective member including a first protective member rotatably supported by the opening and closing member and a second protective member rotatably supported by the housing and rotatably connected to the first protective member, wherein rotation axial directions of the first protective member and the second protective member are the same direction as a rotation axial direction of the opening and closing member, and the connection member is accommodated in the protective member and protected by the protective member.

An image forming apparatus includes a controller that causes an image reading device to suspend reading a source document, when a decider decides that a shortage value of a source image is equal to or larger than a first threshold, causes a display device to display a message that the first threshold is changed to a predetermined second threshold larger than the first threshold, stores the source image, or causes the image forming device to form the source image, when a reading resuming instruction, to resume reading the source document at least including the source document the reading of which has been suspended, is received by an operation device, and when the decider decides that the shortage value of the source image is smaller than the second threshold, and causes, when there is a next source document, the image reading device to read the next source document.

An image forming apparatus, including: an apparatus main body; an openable and closable member provided on the apparatus main body; an image reading portion configured to read an image of an original, the image reading portion being supported on the apparatus main body and being movable to a first position and to a second position; and a stopper member configured to move in conjunction with a movement of the image reading portion, wherein when the image reading portion is moved to the first position, the stopper member is moved to a restricting position for restricting the openable and closable member from moving from a closed position to an open position, and wherein when the image reading portion is moved to the second position, the stopper member is moved to an allowing position for allowing the openable and closable member to move from the closed position to the open position.
