Computer-generated holographic display systems are described with improved image quality when used with illumination sources other than single mode lasers, such as broader emission light sources including LEDs and multi-mode lasers.

Coherent Optical Imaging for Detecting Neural Signatures and Medical Imaging Applications Using Common-Path Coherent Optical Techniques

Example apparatuses and methods relating to imaging systems are provided. An example imaging system may include an optical source configured to generate an optical beam, a beam splitter configured to split the optical beam into a reference beam and an object beam, and a beam combiner configured to route a combined beam with reference beam and object beam components along a common path into a target medium. In this regard, the target medium may act upon the combined beam to form a common path interference beam. The example imaging system may further include an imaging sensor configured to receive the common path interference beam and generate common path interference beam data associated with the common path interference beam, and an image data processor configured to analyze the common path interference beam data to generate image data describing the target medium.

Coherent Optical Imaging for Detecting Neural Signatures and Medical Imaging Applications Using Holographic Imaging Techniques

A neural imaging system may include an imaging array, an image data processor operably coupled to the imaging array to process image data received from the imaging array, and a beam angle separator disposed between the imaging array and an object being imaged. The beam angle separator may be configured to separate an object beam reflected from the object being imaged into a plurality of reference beams each having different angular separation with respect to the object beam. The image data processor may be configured to generate image data of the object for each one of the reference beams to correspond to a respective different depth within the object.

A method for displaying a hologram to a variable direction including using circuitry to determine a direction from a holographic projector to a viewer for projecting a hologram to a viewer, and projecting a hologram in the determined direction, in which the projecting the hologram includes reflecting from a same mirror as the determining the direction of the viewer, and the circuitry controls the projecting the hologram to a direction corrected for a difference in direction between a projecting unit and a tracking unit relative to the mirror. Related apparatus and methods are also described.

LENSLESS IMAGING DEVICE AND ASSOCIATED METHOD OF OBSERVATION

The invention describes a device allowing the observation of a sample, comprising particles, for example biological particles, by lensless imaging. The sample is disposed against a substrate, the substrate being interposed between a light source and an image sensor. The substrate comprises at least one thin film, extending across a thin film plane, structured so as to form a diffraction grating, designed to confine a part of a light wave emitted by the light source, in a plane parallel to said thin film plane. The device does not comprise magnification optics between the substrate and the image sensor.

Disclosed are methods and systems for displaying images, and for implementing volumetric user interfaces. One exemplary embodiment provides a system comprising: a light source; an image producing unit, which produces an image upon interaction with light approaching the image producing unit from the light source; an eyepiece; and a mirror, directing light from the image to a surface of the eyepiece, wherein the surface has a shape of a solid of revolution formed by revolving a planar curve at least 180 around an axis of revolution.

Coherent Diffractive Imaging With Spaced-Apart Beams

Apparatus and methods for Coherent Diffractive Imaging with multiple, simultaneous, spatially distinct beams chosen and configured to isolate incoherent sums of beam diffraction such that interference between the multiple beams is not present in the data prior to computationally reconstructing the image. This is accomplished through selecting the multiple beams to be non-interfering modes, or through designing the apparatus such that the interference is not recorded, or through processing the collected data to filter the interference before reconstructing the image.

Illumination system and method

An illumination system is arranged to output a light beam for illuminating a scene. The system comprises a spatial light modulator arranged to receive incident light, and to output light comprising a first component and a second component. The first component comprises incident light that is output without modulation by the spatial light modulator. The second component comprises incident light that is spatially-modulated according to a hologram and output by the spatial light modulator. A control device is operable to control the proportion of light output by the spatial light modulator that corresponds to the second component.

A volumetric display system including a volumetric display for displaying a scene viewable as a three-dimensional floating-in-the-air scene in a display space, enabling a user to reach a first object into the display space, a location determination unit locating real objects in the display space, providing a location of the first object when the first object is inserted into the display space, and a computer for receiving the location of the first object, detecting when the location of the first object is at a location where an object is displayed in the three-dimensional scene, thereby determining that the first object is viewable as touching the displayed object following a detection of the first object viewable as touching the displayed object, producing a new three-dimensional scene displaying the displayed object as if manipulated by the first object. Related apparatus and methods are also described.
