A user-worn device includes a band portion and a display portion. The band portion comprises a wire that is configured to create a first magnetic field that follows the curvature of the band portion. The display portion comprises a first electromagnet that is configured to produce a second magnetic field. A wristwatch having a watch case that rests against the radial side of a wearer's wrist is provided. The wristwatch includes a radial watch having a rigid band with a first and second end that forms a gap. A watch case is secured between the ends forming a closed loop. The rigid band is monolithic and sized in such a way that the watch case is disposed on the radial side of the wrist when worn. The watch case includes a face that can be oriented towards the wearer for convenient viewing. In one embodiment, the band includes padding on an interior side.

A wearable device can include an electronic device and a band for securing the electronic device to the user. The electronic device can detect an identification of the band, which can serve as an input to initiate actions performed by the electronic device. For example, a type, model, color, size, or other characteristic of a band can be determined and used to select a corresponding action performed by the electronic device. Identification of the band can be performed by components of the electronic device that also serve other purposes. Existing sensors, communication elements, and/or detectors can be used to detect and identity a band provided to the electronic device. The electronic device can respond to the identification of a particular band by performing particular functions, such as changing an aspect of a user interface or altering settings of the electronic device.

A band for securing an electronic device to a user may include a monolithic band body having proximal and distal ends for coupling to a body of the electronic device. A portable object includes a case having a middle, a bracelet, and an attachment system for removably securing each end of the bracelet to the middle. The middle includes two longitudinal cavities to form a slide bar. Each end of the bracelet includes a fastening head that cooperates, by sliding, with one of the longitudinal cavities to form the attachment system. The fastening head includes an end flange made of a viscoelastic material. The attachment system includes a viscoelastic fitting for locking axial movement of the fastening head inside the longitudinal cavity by the viscoelastic response of the end flange. The viscoelastic fitting is formed by cooperation of a rigid locking protrusion in each longitudinal cavity to deform the end flange upon insertion of the bracelet. The locking protrusion fits inside a recess made in the end flange to lock the axial movement of the fastening head.
