Method and system for storytelling on a computing device via social media

Disclosed is a method and system for enabling storytelling on a computing device. A processor: (a) analyzes a first set of media items associated with the user, each media item having associated metadata; (b) identifies one or more related characteristics among the media items in the first set; (c) forms a cluster of media items associated with an event based on the identified one or more related characteristics; (d) repeats steps (a) and (b) for a second set of media items, each media item in the second set having associated metadata and related to a social connection of the user; (e) adds media items in the second set, from a social media site associated with the second set, to the cluster; (f) edits selected media items in the cluster to fit into selected templates; and (g) creates a mixed-media module comprising the templates organized into a desired sequence.

A method for database syncing is provided. The method includes receiving database change indicators indicating changes to a database. For each database change indicator, the method also includes determining whether the respective change to the database corresponds to a single change to a single version of the database, one of multiple changes to a common version of the database, or one of multiple changes to different versions of the database. The method further includes generating a change log compaction data structure comprising entries. Each entry includes an exact entry defining a corresponding single change to a corresponding single version of the database, a range entry defining corresponding multiple changes to a corresponding common version of the database, or an interval entry defining corresponding multiple changes to corresponding different versions of the database.

User interfaces for browsing content from multiple content applications on an electronic device

In some embodiments, an electronic device presents media items from different media applications in a unified media browsing application. In some embodiments, an electronic device facilitates browsing of media from different media applications based on category of media (e.g., movies, television shows, etc.). In some embodiments, an electronic device facilitates setup of a unified media browsing application that presents media items from different media applications in a unified media browsing user interface. In some embodiments, an electronic device displays multiple episodes of a collection of episodic content (e.g., a television series) in a user interface for the collection of episodic content. In some embodiments, an electronic device displays representations of, and provides access to, live-event media items accessible on the electronic device.

Systems and methods for automated local story generation and curation are described. In one example embodiment, a server computer receives content from client devices, and processes the content to identify content characteristics. Stories are then generated based on the characteristics of the received content, and the stories are communicated to client devices. In certain embodiments, selection at a client device of an individual piece of content within a story may further be used by the system to provide the client device with a sub-story that includes pieces of content sharing content characteristics with the characteristics of the selected image or video.
