System and method for failure handling for virtual volumes across multiple storage systems

A method, computer program product, and computing system for generating a pair of protocol endpoints within each storage system of a pair of storage systems. One protocol endpoint of the pair of protocol endpoints may be dedicated to each storage system of the pair of storage systems. One or more IO requests may be processed between one or more hosts and one or more virtual volumes within the pair of storage systems via the pair of protocol endpoints.

REDUNDANCY DATA BUS INVERSION SHARING
20220350713 · 2022-11-03 ·

Methods, systems, and devices for redundant data bus inversion (DBI) sharing are described. A device may identify a group of channels included in a data bus. The device may determine whether the group of channels satisfies a criterion. Based on the determination, the device may allocate an overhead channel to the group of channels for a set of redundancy operations. Based on the determination, the device may allocate the overhead channel to the group of channels for a set of data bus inversion operations. The device may encode data associated with the group of channels based on the allocation of the overhead channel. The overhead channel may be included in the data bus.

Techniques for performing backups using hints

Processing I/O operations may include: receiving, at a data storage system, an I/O operation from a host, wherein the I/O operation is directed to a logical address and includes an I/O tag used in connection with performing data reduction processing for first data stored at the logical address; and performing processing to back up a data set including the first data stored at the logical address. The processing may include: sending, from the data storage system to a backup application, the data set and hints regarding the first data set, wherein the hints include a first hint determined in accordance with the I/O tag from the host; performing, in accordance with the hints, data reduction processing of the data set to generate a second data set; and storing the second data set on one or more backup storage devices.

A communication node is further provided which is suitable for use in the method or in the system arrangement. Also provided is a computer program comprising control commands which implement the proposed method or operate the proposed system arrangement.

Runtime cell row replacement in a memory
11481294 · 2022-10-25 · ·

Runtime memory cell row defect detection and replacement includes detecting in a memory of a computer system operating in a runtime operating system mode, a defective row of memory cells having at least one defective cell. In response to the detection of the defective row, interrupting the operating system of the computer system and, in a runtime system maintenance mode, replacing the defective row of memory cells with a spare row of memory cells as a replacement row of memory cells. Execution of the operating system is then resumed in the runtime operating system mode Other aspects and advantages are described.

EVENT-DRIVEN SYSTEM FAILOVER AND FAILBACK

A system determines that a primary event processor, included in a primary data center, is associated with a failure. The primary event processor is included in the primary data center and configured to process first events stored in a main event store of the primary data center. The system identifies a secondary event processor, in a secondary data center, that is to process one or more first events based on the failure. The primary event processor and the secondary event processor are configured to process a same type of event. The system causes, based on a configuration associated with the primary or secondary event processor, the one or more first events to be retrieved from one of the main event store or a replica event store. The replica event store is included in the secondary data center and mirrors the main event store of the primary data center.

MANAGEMENT OF ACTIVE-ACTIVE CONFIGURATION USING MULTI-PATHING SOFTWARE
20230081355 · 2023-03-16 ·

An apparatus comprises a host device that includes a multi-path input-output (MPIO) driver configured to control delivery of input-output (IO) operations from the host device to first and second storage systems over selected paths through a network. The MPIO driver is further configured to identify a connectivity failure between the host device and a given one of the first and second storage systems, to generate a message comprising one or more details of the connectivity failure, and to send the message to a remaining one of the first and second storage systems over at least one path of a plurality of paths between the host device and the remaining one of the storage systems. The first and second storage systems in some embodiments are arranged in an active-active configuration relative to one another, with one being designated as a non-bias and the other as a bias storage system.

Active-active architecture for distributed ISCSI target in hyper-converged storage

A method is provided for a hyper-converged storage-compute system to implement an active-active failover architecture for providing Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) target service. The method intelligently selects multiple hosts to become storage nodes that process iSCSI input/output (I/O) for a target. The method further enables iSCSI persistent reservation (PR) to handle iSCSI I/Os from multiple initiators.

MANAGING APPLICATIONS IN A CLUSTER

Approaches for managing applications in a cluster are described. In an example, a first agent may be executing on a first programmable network adapter card installed within a first computing node within a cluster. The first agent may isolate an application executing on the first computing node. Thereafter, the application may be managed by the second computing node.
