A computer-automated separation rules compliance method is disclosed. Separation rules that establish separation distance requirements between objects in a three-dimensional (3D) virtual environment are defined. Sample locations associated with at least some of the objects in the 3D virtual environment are specified. One or more of proximity and/or collision analysis is performed on the sample locations to determine separation distances between the objects. The determined separation distances are compared to the separation distance requirements. Objects in the 3D virtual environment that violate the separation rules based on said comparing are identified.

An instruction (or set of instructions) that can be included in a program to perform a ray tracing acceleration data structure traversal, with individual execution threads in a group of execution threads executing the program performing a traversal operation for a respective ray in a corresponding group of rays such that the group of rays performing the traversal operation together. The instruction(s), when executed by the execution threads in respect of a node of the ray tracing acceleration data structure, cause one or more rays from the group of plural rays that are performing the traversal operation together to be tested for intersection with the one or more volumes associated with the node being tested. A result of the ray-volume intersection testing can then be returned for the traversal operation.

The instruction(s), when executed by the execution threads will cause one or more rays from the group of plural rays to be tested for intersection with a set of primitives. A result of the ray-primitive intersection testing can then be returned for the traversal operation.

A geometric description of a virtual auxiliary object as a surface in space and a pose of the auxiliary object with respect to the object are specified, wherein the auxiliary object separates part of the object from the rest of the object. An enhanced image is generated based on a superimposition of the camera image with a representation of the auxiliary object depending on the geometric description and the pose of the auxiliary object by a computing unit and displayed on a display device. The enhanced image is generated and displayed in such a way that the auxiliary object has a spatially variable transparency.

In an example, a method includes acquiring, at a processor, a data model of an object to be generated in additive manufacturing, the data model comprising object model data representing a slice of the object model as a plurality of polygons and object property data comprising property data associated with the plurality of polygons.
