Methods and apparatus for electronic voting
Aspects of the present disclosure relate to an apparatus comprising: a substrate; communication circuitry deposited on said substrate; and ballot circuitry deposited on said substrate. The ballot circuitry comprises: a plurality of voting circuitry elements, each voting circuitry element being responsive to a voting operation to change a conductive state of that voting circuitry element; and logic circuitry communicatively coupled with each of the plurality of voting circuitry elements and with the communication circuitry. The logic circuitry is configured to: detect the conductive state of each of the plurality of voting circuitry elements; and transmit, via the communication circuitry and based on the conductive state of each of the plurality of voting circuitry elements, a voting result.

Ballot and envelope system and methods thereof
A computer-implemented system includes a printing apparatus and a processor. The printing apparatus is configured for printing a ballot and an envelope associated with the ballot and a voter. The processor is configured to access a request file defining voter data from a voter registration database and generate a set of print instructions including ballot print instructions for a ballot and envelope print instructions for an envelope. Both of the ballot print instructions and the envelope print instructions are generated using the request file, and the set of print instructions includes instructions for printing a first machine-readable identifier for the envelope. The processor is further configured to transmit an instruction to the printing apparatus to print the ballot and the envelope using at least a portion of the voter data defined by the request file, the envelope including the first machine-readable identifier corresponding to the voter.

A computer-implemented system includes a printing apparatus and a processor. The printing apparatus is configured for printing a ballot and an envelope associated with the ballot and a voter. The processor is configured to access a request file defining voter data from a voter registration database and generate a set of print instructions including ballot print instructions for a ballot and envelope print instructions for an envelope. Both of the ballot print instructions and the envelope print instructions are generated using the request file, and the set of print instructions includes instructions for printing a first machine-readable identifier for the envelope. The processor is further configured to transmit an instruction to the printing apparatus to print the ballot and the envelope using at least a portion of the voter data defined by the request file, the envelope including the first machine-readable identifier corresponding to the voter.
Voting systems and methods for processing provisional ballots and performing a risk limiting audit
A voting system comprises a ballot tabulation device that tabulates each of a plurality of paper ballots by determining one or more contest selections marked on the paper ballot and storing the contest selections within a cast vote record (CVR) for the paper ballot. One or more of the paper ballots comprises a provisional ballot on which is printed an identification code that represents or is associated with a voter code assigned to a voter who cast the provisional ballot. During the tabulation process, a direct or indirect link is provided between the CVR and the voter code for the provisional ballot. The voting system also comprises an election management system that identifies the CVR associated with each of one or more inputted voter codes, i.e., the voter codes assigned to voters who have had a change in eligibility status, and updates the total vote count to include or exclude the contest selections stored within that CVR as applicable. Preferably, the election management system is configured to prevent a user from accessing the contest selections stored in the CVR for the provisional ballot based on the voter code. For audit purposes, a ballot code may also be printed on each paper ballot, wherein the ballot code may optionally serve as the identification code for a provisional ballot.

A secure ballot collection system is formed of a removable container that may be positioned within a voting machine and used for collecting paper ballots as they are cast. The container itself is capable of being sealed after removal from the voting machine to ensure the security of the paper ballots. The removable container is placed on a raised floor platform that is also positioned within the interior of the voting machine. The platform provides easy access to the interior of the voting machine from a side opening and allows for the ballot container bag to be located at a height where it is relatively straightforward for an election official to place an “empty” container bag at the beginning of the voting process, and also remove a “filled” container bag at some point in time thereafter.
