NETWORK CONNECTIVITY MODULE FOR ELECTRO-MECHANICAL LOCKS
A network connectivity module may provide additional or alternative functionality to a lock that secures a securable container, such as a safe or automated teller machine. The module may be installed in a communication pathway between a keypad and the lock. The module may be programmed to communicate with a plurality of different locks manufactured by different manufacturers. The module may include a network input/output interface, which may provide a wired or wireless connection to one or more external networks, such as the Internet. The additional or alternative functionality may provide a new feature set for the lock that was not available at the time of purchase or installation of the lock. Additionally or alternatively, the connectivity to the external networks may enable remote access to the module, and may enable a remote user to enable or disable functionality of the module, and/or access to the securable container.
Apparatus and associated method
An apparatus comprising a power providing arrangement for a field powered device having a coil antenna for receiving a wireless signal, the power providing arrangement comprising: a first capacitor configured to be coupled to the coil antenna, the first capacitor configured to store energy obtained from the wireless signal received by the coil antenna, up to a first stored energy level, and configured to provide said energy to power the field powered device; a second capacitor arranged in parallel with the first capacitor via a switch; the switch providing at least a connected state in which the first capacitor and the second capacitor are connected in parallel and configured to both store the energy obtained from the wireless signal up to a second stored energy level, greater than the first stored energy level, and configured to provide said energy to power the field powered device and a disconnected state in which the second capacitor is disconnected from the first capacitor; the switch configured to transition from the disconnected state to the connected state based on particular signalling received from a remote device.
Physical access control system
A physical access control system, PACS, (100) comprises at least one reader (103) and a method performed comprises a number of actions that begin with obtaining a first indication that the at least one reader (103) requires reader configuration information. In response to the first indication, the control unit obtains the required reader configuration information. A protocol (108, 110) with which the at least one reader (103) is capable of communicating with a control unit (101) is determined and the required reader configuration information is then interpreted into protocol specific data. Using the determined protocol, the control unit (101) then transmits the protocol specific data to the at least one reader (103).
Vehicle event recorder systems and networks having integrated cellular wireless communications systems
Vehicle event recorder systems are arranged to be in constant communication with remote servers and administrators via mobile wireless cellular networks. Vehicle event recorders equipped with video cameras capture video and other data records of important events relating to vehicle use. These data are then transmitted over special communications networks having very high coverage space but limited bandwidth. A vehicle may be operated over very large region while maintaining continuous communications connections with a remote fixed server. As such, systems of these inventions may be characterized as including a mobile unit having: a video camera; a microprocessor; memory; an event trigger; and mobile wireless transceivers, and a fixed network portion including: mobile wireless cellular network, a protocol translation gateway, the Internet and an application-specific server.
