An umbrella system includes a support pole connected to a rotating tube positioned around a center tube that extends between the support pole and a center support that is connected to an umbrella frame. The rotating tube has one or more helical grooves therein that are engaged by teeth of a hub which is connected to the umbrella frame. As the rotating tube is rotated, the hub is driven along the length of the rotating tube thereby opening and closing the umbrella frame. In one arrangement system includes a motor housing assembly including a plurality of batteries and a motor that includes a driven gear that meshes with a stationary gear which causes rotation of the rotating tube.

A solar-powered umbrella has a cap structure that is connected by hinges to struts. The struts are relatively rigid and positioned above the umbrella shade and house solar panels. When the umbrella is opened and closed, the struts rotate via the hinges from an open to closed position. When the solar panels are exposed to the sun, light is converted to electrical energy to charge a rechargeable battery. The battery supplies power to one or more USB ports. A user can recharge an electronic device (e.g., smartphone or tablet computer) by connecting to a port of the umbrella using a cable.

A platform assembly that attaches to a shaft. The platform assembly includes a hub that is mounted in a fixed position. Cradle supports extend from the hub. The cradle supports define open troughs having open tops between opposing side surfaces. Support arms are provided that are connected to the cradle supports with pivot connections. The pivot connections enable the support arms to rotate between an open position and a folded position. In the open position, each of the support arms lay flush in the open troughs. In the folded position, each of the support arms are angled away from the open trough. A flexible panel is supported by the support arms. The flexible panel is held taut in a horizontal plane when the support arms are in their open positions. The flexible panel is folded and collapsed when the support arms are moved to their folded positions.

An arm expansion assembly includes a cable and a hinging assembly and cover; the cable entering a bottom portion of the hinging assembly and cover and enclosed by the hinging assembly and cover. The arm expansion assembly further includes a first arm support assembly and a second arm support assembly, the first arm support assembly connected to a first side of the hinging assembly and cover and the second arm support assembly connected to the second side of the hinging assembly and cover.

A portable awning and table assembly includes a vehicle that has a cargo bed. A pair of first supports is each positionable in the cargo bed and a spool is rotatably coupled to between each of the first supports. A tarp is wrapped around the spool for storage and the tarp is selectively drawn off of the spool. A pair of second supports is spaceable a selected distance from the cargo bed. A pair of receivers is each coupled to a respective one of the second supports and engages the tarp when the tarp is drawn outwardly from the spool. In this way the tarp can shade an area therebeneath. A first table is removably coupled between the second supports having the first table is horizontally oriented for supporting objects. A second table is releasably coupled to the first table for increasing surface area for the objects.

An automated umbrella assembly includes an umbrella that is positionable between a deployed position and a stored position. A worm gear is rotatably coupled to the umbrella for urging the umbrella between the deployed position and the stored position. A pole is provided and the umbrella is pivotally coupled to the pole. A base insertably receives the pole such that the umbrella is spaced from the base. A control circuit is positioned in the pole and a worm gear motor is coupled to the umbrella. The worm gear is rotatably coupled to the worm gear motor and the worm gear motor is electrically coupled to the control circuit. The worm gear motor rotates the worm gear in a first direction to urge the umbrella into the stored position. The worm gear motor rotates the worm gear in a second direction to urge the umbrella the deployed position.

An umbrella arm expansion assembly, comprising one or more arm expansion gear housings, an actuator housing including a linear actuator; one or more rack gear assemblies; and one or more arm support assemblies. The one or more rack gear assemblies move in a vertical direction in response to vertical movement of the linear actuator.
