Lower concave and convex portions are provided on an upper surface of the lower conveyance path behind the reading unit. Upper concave and convex portions are provided on a lower surface of the upper conveyance path to be fitted to the lower concave and convex portion. A pressing unit provides a fitted state of the lower and upper concave and convex portions when no object is present. A detection sensor detects a state where an interval between the lower and upper concave and convex portions is widened. The detection sensor detects the state where the interval is widened, to recognize that an object is inserted between the lower and upper concave and convex portions.

The computing device may then determine a positioning for the user interface, where the user interface may be substantially centered about the first location. In some instances, the computing device may display the user interface using the positioning. The computing device may then receive a second input corresponding to swipe from the first location of the display to a second location of the display. The computing device may then determine a symbol included in the user interface based at least in part on the second input. In some instances, the user interface includes a keypad for entering a personal identification number associated with a payment instrument.

A method of determining a proximity of an antenna located in a payment instrument to an antenna located within an electronic device may include receiving, at the antenna located within the electronic device, a first signal from the antenna located in the payment instrument, the first signal received at a first time, receiving, at the antenna located within an electronic device, a second signal from the antenna located in the payment instrument, the second signal received at a second time, the second time being later than the first time, determining a difference in a signal strength between the first and second signals, and displaying, on a display of the electronic device, an indication based on the determination.

A transmitter for transmitting a secure access signal to a system for providing secure access to a controlled item is disclosed. The access is dependent on information contained in the secure access signal. The transmitter comprises a biometric sensor for receiving a biometric signal and a processor for matching the biometric signal against members of a database of biometric signatures. The transmitter comprises enabling means for enabling an inductive circuit, based on the matching of the biometric signal, to transmit the secure access signal conveying the information to the system upon the inductive circuit being placed within range of a radio frequency field emitted by the system.

A processor of a computing device may receive, from a contactless card, a uniform resource locator (URL) and a cryptogram. An operating system (OS) executing on the processor may open an application based on the URL. The application may transmit the cryptogram to an authentication server. The application may receive, based on the server verifying the cryptogram, an account number. The application may store the account number in a memory of the device.
