Rail warning system and method
11866078 · 2024-01-09 · ·

A rail warning system using wireless portable transmitters/receivers. The rail warning system uses chirp spread spectrum modulation scheme, and alerts personnel in work zones on or near train tracks as well as optionally, on track equipment and train operators , of approaching trains or on track equipment. Portable wayside devices may also be positioned on the rail web, optionally magnetically, to alert work personnel, allowing for secure placement but also portability to other locations on the same track or adjacent tracks.

Collision Risk Mitigation Pedestrian Light Emitter
20200349816 · 2020-11-05 ·

A collision risk mitigation pedestrian light emitter is a safety device through which a pedestrian's presence is visually signaled to a vehicle operator to decrease collision potential. The safety device includes a first telescoping leg, a second telescoping leg, a light-emitting device, a power source, and a locking mechanism. The first telescoping leg and second telescoping leg are terminally and hingedly connected to each other to form an L-shaped structure. The locking mechanism secures the L-shaped structure and is mechanically integrated between the first telescoping leg and second telescoping leg. The light-emitting device visually indicates the pedestrian's presence and is adjacently mounted to the first telescoping leg to enable variable light height adjustment. The light-emitting device is powered by and electrically connected to the power source mounted to the first telescoping leg. The second telescoping leg is used to mount/attach the safety device to the pedestrian, preferably to a backpack.

An article of clothing includes user-protection circuitry, integrated into the article of clothing. The user-protection circuitry includes condition-detection circuitry, which, in operation, generates one or more indications related to an environment of the article of clothing. The user-protection circuitry also includes broadcast circuitry including at least one pulsing device, and control circuitry. The control circuitry, in operation, activates the broadcast circuitry based on the one or more indications related to the environment of the article of clothing generated by the condition-detection circuitry.

HAND HOLDABLE AUTONOMOUS COUNTDOWN DEVICE
20200312135 · 2020-10-01 ·

A hand holdable automatic countdown device comprises a panel having a first side and an opposing second side. A bi-directional display is coupled to the panel and is capable of emitting a visual signal in opposite directions away from the first side and the second side, with the visual signal being representative of a countdown. An actuator is coupled to the panel and capable of being selectively actuated by a user. A controller is in operative communication with the actuator and the display, with the controller being configured to generate a display command signal in response to actuation of the actuator by the user. The display receives the display command signal from the controller and emits the visual command signal in response thereto, with the display automatically transitioning to an OFF state upon completion of the countdown.

A portable handheld traffic control device includes a lamp, a housing that encloses the lamp, and a handle. The handle attaches to a proximal (back) side of the housing and includes a control panel operable by a thumb of a hand grasping the handle. In a first (vehicle) mode, the lamp emits light on a distal (front) side of the housing in one of four colors: red, yellow, green, or white, when a respective button for the corresponding color is pressed. In a second (pedestrian) mode, pressing the red button causes the lamp to display a steady red upraised hand, pressing the yellow button causes the lamp to display a flashing red upraised hand, and pressing the green button causes the lamp to display a steady white walking person figure. A battery powers the lamp. The device includes a secondary display visible on the proximal (back) side of the device.

RAILYARD CREW MEMBER HELMET FOR USE WITHIN A RAILYARD

The present invention relates to a smart helmet for use by railyard personnel at a railyard. The smart helmet may utilize many safety features, such as improved visibility, a real-time camera, a Wi-Fi antenna, an environmental monitor, high-accuracy location tracking, tracking the state of the railyard crew member, real-time communication, and mobile power. Each of these features may be incorporated with the smart helmet.

PORTABLE, SELF-ILLUMINATING TRAFFIC SIGN
20200143717 · 2020-05-07 ·

A portable, self-illuminating traffic sign having a sign head with two opposite sides. One side indicates a first traffic signal, and the other side indicates a second traffic signal. Light assemblies are attached to each side of the sign head. The light assemblies emit light that may match the predominant color of one of the sides of the sign head. A battery may be disposed in a pole that connects to the sign head. A handlegrip allows for the sign to be held and provides a switch to allow for the lights to be selectively turned on and off.

NETWORK AND CONNECTED DEVICES FOR EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND ROADSIDE OPERATIONS
20200128592 · 2020-04-23 ·

A self-assembling network is configured to automatically and dynamically connect devices used in operations carried out on or near roads bearing vehicle and pedestrian traffic. An automatic, ad hoc network connecting existing and new devices can be used to enhance safety by gathering and exchanging safety critical information. In some cases, existing equipment can be augmented with a network controller and radio frequency communications to permit the devices to join a wireless local network and exchange information over the network. New devices, including wearable devices, can be configured to act as nodes on the wireless local network. Establishing the relative position of vehicles, sensors, wearables, and other nodes on the disclosed ad hoc wireless network allows the coordination of functions based on position.
