METHOD FOR ASSOCIATING AN OBJECT WITH A USER, DEVICE, OBJECT, AND CORRESPONDING COMPUTER PROGRAM PRODUCT
A method for associating a communicating object with at least one user. A remote server receives a signal requesting an association between an user identifier and an object identifier. The server verifies an authorization for the association between the object identifier and the user identifier, including verification of whether or not there is pre-existing association of the object identifier with at least one other user identifier. If association is authorized, the object identifier is associated with the user identifier in a database which can be accessed by the remote server. The database includes at least one user identifier list and one object identifier list.
System and method for flexible configuration of a controlling device
A system and method whereby an user interface editing device is used to create a user interface for a controlling device, the created user interface including user interface elements that are associated with functional operations of a virtual equivalent of an appliance. After the created user interface is transferred to the controlling device, the virtual equivalent of an appliance is caused to be linked to an intended target appliance whereupon activation of those user interface elements of the graphical user interface that were associated with functional operations of the virtual equivalent of an appliance will cause the controlling device to transmit commands to control corresponding functional operations of the intended target appliance.
System and method for optimized appliance control
In response to a detected presence of an intended target appliance within a logical topography of controllable appliances identity information associated with the intended target appliance is used to automatically add to a graphical user interface of a controlling device an icon representative of the intended target appliance and to create at a Universal Control Engine a listing of communication methods for use in controlling corresponding functional operations of the intended target appliance. When the icon is later activated, the controlling device is placed into an operating state appropriate for controlling functional operations of the intended target appliance while the Universal Control Engine uses at least one of the communication methods to transmit at least one command to place the intended target appliance into a predetermined operating state.
System and method for widget-assisted setup of a universal remote control
A system and method for enabling set up of a controlling device capable of controlling a plurality of appliances provides an interactive instruction set and associated programming which is downloadable to a controllable appliance having an associated display, such as an Internet enabled television. The programming is accessible by the controllable appliance and is configured to appropriately display interactive instructions from the interactive instruction set to a user during a user initiated set up procedure for setting up the controlling device to communicate commands to another controllable device (e.g., a DVD, VCR, DVR, etc).
Universal remote control with object recognition
Embodiments utilize a camera on a universal remote control to automatically detect which device the remote is pointed at by the user. The image captured by the camera is compared to a database of images of known or preconfigured devices that can be controlled by the universal remote control. If the image captured by the camera matches an image in the database, then the universal remote control loads a specific key map for the preconfigured device from the database.
TELEVISION AND SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING A REMOTE CONTROL DEVICE
A television and system and method for providing a remote control device are disclosed. In one embodiment of the television, the television includes a processor, a memory, a tuner, a panel, and an audio driver therein in an interconnected architecture. The television may establish a pairing with a proximate wireless-enabled interactive programmable device, such as a proximate wireless-enabled interactive handheld device having a touch screen display, whereby formatted parallel audiovisual experience instructions, including virtual buttons, may be transmitted to the proximate wireless-enabled interactive programmable device for display on the touch screen display to create an experience parallel to the experience on the television. The television receives and processes virtual remote control functionality input instructions from the proximate wireless-enabled interactive programmable device to control amenities associated with the television.
Key fob dongle
The disclosed method uses a dongle to program a replacement key fob transmitter to a vehicle. The dongle mates to the vehicle's on-board electronics through the vehicle's existing data link. A diagnostic circuit in the dongle determines a communications protocol for programming the key fob transmitter to the vehicle. Audio and visual indicators indicate that communications are established and the successful programming of the key fob transmitter to the vehicle.
Trainable transceiver for communication to a fixed or mobile receiver
A trainable transceiver for controlling a device includes an antenna array, at least one location sensor or connection to a location sensor, and a control circuit. The antenna array includes at least two antennas and is configured to direct a transmission. The control circuit is coupled to the antenna array and the at least one location sensor. The control circuit is configured to control the antenna array to direct the transmission along an antenna heading corresponding to a communication path between the trainable transceiver and the device, and wherein the control circuit is configured to determine the communication path based on (A) a location of the trainable transceiver determined by the control circuit based on information from the at least one location sensor and (B) a location of the device determined by the control circuit.
Trainable transceiver with orientation based antenna power control
A trainable transceiver for controlling a device includes an antenna configured to receive power from a power source, at least one orientation sensor, and a control circuit coupled to the antenna and the at least one orientation sensor. The control circuit is configured to determine an orientation of the antenna based on data from the at least one orientation sensor. The control circuit is further is configured to control the amount of power received by the antenna based on the determined orientation of the antenna. The trainable transceiver is configured to be capable of controlling the device based on at least one signal characteristic stored in memory and determined based on a signal received from an original transmitter.
METHOD FOR THE UNIQUE ALLOCATION OF A REMOTE CONTROL TO A DEVICE SYSTEM
A method for the unique allocation of a first system component (14) of a device system (10), designed as a remote control, to a second and third system component (13, 12) of the device system (10), wherein the remote control (14) can be connected to the second system component (13) via a wireless and cableless communication link (35) or via a first cable or plug connection (36).
