Efficiently producible cigarette paper for self-extinguishing cigarettes
10231481 · 2019-03-19 · ·

A cigarette paper is disclosed that has at least one treated area to which a composition that contains filler particles or a mixture of filler particles is applied. The diffusion capacity thereby in the at least one treated area is less than in an untreated area of the cigarette paper, wherein at least 20% by weight, preferably at least 50% by weight and particularly preferably at least 70% by weight of the filler particles in the treated area are formed by a filler with a flaked shape or a filler with a cubic shape. Additionally or alternatively, a filler with a scalenohedral or rhombohedral crystal structure can be used, as long as the particle size distribution is selected appropriately.

NUCLEIC ACID SEQUENCES ENCODING TRANSCRIPTION FACTORS REGULATING ALKALOID BIOSYNTHESIS AND THEIR USE IN MODIFYING PLANT METABOLISM
20190017062 · 2019-01-17 · ·

Plant metabolism and alkaloid levels can be regulated by transcription factors that regulate the nicotinic alkaloid biosynthetic pathway. In one embodiment, the disclosure provides a transcription factor that negatively regulates alkaloid biosynthesis, such as nicotine biosynthesis.

BREAKABLE AEROSOL GENERATING ARTICLE
20190014820 · 2019-01-17 · ·

An aerosol generating article is provided, having a first section including a combustible heat source and an aerosol-forming substrate and a second section including a tubular element defining a recess at one end of the second section. The sections are integrally connected at a region of weakness and are separable at the region so that the element can be placed over the heat source and so that the heat source is at least partially received in the recess. The first section is upstream of the second section when the sections are integrally connected and the element is at least partially open at both ends thereof such that air may be drawn through the element. The element is either at a downstream end of the second section such that the recess forms a mouth end cavity, or is at an upstream end such that the recess forms a transfer element.

BANDED PAPERS, SMOKING ARTICLES AND METHODS

Wrapper for cigarette manufacture includes transversely extending band regions applied by a printing technique, such as gravure printing. The band regions comprise starch, an anti-wrinkling agent such as 1,2 propylene glycol or glycerin, and optionally calcium carbonate. Any suitable printing technique can be used to apply the aqueous solution to the banded regions. The pattern of banded regions may be bands, stripes, two-dimensional arrays, undulated regions, and the like along and/or around the tobacco rod. The pattern can be applied in one or more layers. The pattern may be configured so that when a smoking article is placed on a substrate, at least two longitudinal locations along the length of the tobacco rod have film-forming compound located only on sides of the smoking article not in contact with the substrate.
