Method and system for providing adjunct sensory information to a user

A method for providing information to a user, the method including: receiving an input signal from a sensing device associated with a sensory modality of the user; generating a preprocessed signal upon preprocessing the input signal with a set of preprocessing operations; extracting a set of features from the preprocessed signal; processing the set of features with a neural network system; mapping outputs of the neural network system to a device domain associated with a device including a distribution of haptic actuators in proximity to the user; and at the distribution of haptic actuators, cooperatively producing a haptic output representative of at least a portion of the input signal, thereby providing information to the user.

The electronic device includes at least one processor, and at least one memory configured to store instructions executable by the at least one processor, wherein when the instructions are executed by the at least one processor, the at least one processor is configured to perform sensing an occurrence of a trigger event, based on an input to the electronic device and an input to at least one Internet of Things (IoT) device connected to the electronic device, collecting weather information in response to the occurrence of the trigger event, estimating an emotion of a user, based on at least one of context information stored for the user and the weather information, receiving, from the user, an audiovisual impairment state of the user or estimating the audiovisual impairment state based on the context information, determining audiovisual content for a disabled to output, based on at least one of the estimated emotion and the audiovisual impairment state, among the at least one IoT device, determining a target IoT device to output the determined audiovisual content for the disabled, and outputting the determined audiovisual content for the disabled through the target IoT device.

Method of interactive reading for users of self-scrolling Braille
20210398452 · 2021-12-23 ·

Electronically displayed Braille dots are laterally propagated against a stationary finger resting on a stationary base for reading Braille. The lateral propagation takes the form of a transverse wave of pins which are raised and lowered in sequence. The reading can be synchronized with other processes or events under computer controls. A method of interactive reading is provided whereby the reading of Braille from the display is computer-synchronized with other events and processes to help users learn Braille, to monitor physiological responses to reading, and to enhance a user's reading experience.
