Captioning system and method for the vision impaired
A communication system for communicating between a hearing user using a hearing user's communication device and an assisted user, the communication system comprising a relay that receives a hearing user's voice signal and converts that voice signal to text, a text to braille converter that receives the text generated at the relay and converts that text to braille data, a braille display device that is capable of generating braille messages that can be detected by an assisted user via touch and an assisted user's captioned device that receives the braille data and uses the braille data to drive the braille display device to generate braille messages for the assisted user to sense.

Machine translation of consonant-vowel pairs and syllabic units to haptic sequences for transmission via haptic device
A haptic device comprises a signal generator that is configured to receive an input word that is a unit of a language written using consonant-vowel pairs. The signal generator converts the input word into one or more consonant-vowel pairs of the input word. The signal generator further converts the one or more consonant-vowel pairs into a sequence of actuator signals. The sequence of actuator signals is formed from a concatenation of sub-sequences of actuator signals. Each phoneme corresponding to a unique sub-sequence of actuator signals. The haptic device further comprises a two dimensional array of cutaneous actuators configured to receive the sequence of actuator signals from the signal generator, each of the actuator signals mapped to a cutaneous actuator of the two dimensional array of cutaneous actuators.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PROVIDING COMMUNICATION SERVICES
Systems for providing network-based communication services are provided, such systems comprising a platform configured to facilitate interaction between users requesting interpretation services and individuals capable of fulfilling such requests. Both the content submitted through the system for interpretation and the resulting interpretation may be prerecorded, which facilitates the accuracy of the end-product. Methods for facilitating communication services over a network are also provided, such methods comprising the steps of receiving a request for interpretation, receiving acceptance of the request from an interpreter, receiving a response that corresponds with an interpretation of the content, and making the response available to one or more users via a server.

Cognitive situation-aware vision deficiency remediation
Embodiments include methods, systems, and computer program products for remediating a vision deficiency. Aspects include receiving a user device signal indicating a vision deficiency hazard on a roadway and a user device location. Aspects also include sending a user warning signal to the user device.
Calibration of haptic device using sensor harness
A haptic calibration device comprises a signal generator configured to receive the subjective force value and the force location from a subjective magnitude input device. The signal generator also receives from at least one of a plurality of haptic sensors a sensor voltage value, with the at least one of the plurality of haptic sensors corresponding to the force location. The signal generator stores the subjective force value and the corresponding sensor voltage value in a data store. The signal generator generates a calibration curve indicating a correspondence between subjective force values and sensor voltage values for the location where the subjective force was experienced using the data from the data store, wherein the calibration curve is used to calibrate a haptic feedback device.
